87twin350 Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 I'm looking at getting some ITP sand stars front and rear, and I'm contemplating the DWT black/red beadlock rims all the way around. I've never looked closely at these rims. Are they too heavy? I really like the idea of having rims that I don't have to worry about getting sand in the bead. Let me know, cheers. Jeff Quote
WINDYCITYJOHN400 Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 Usually you want the lightest rims you can find. Beadlocks aren't wrong.....but I've never popped a bead. I've had tires spin on the rim from good hook while dragging with only 2-5 pounds of air. But using gasket adhesive as a bead lube while seating the tires can eliminate that issue. Quote

nastyracing Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 go for it ! I run old school champion beadlocks like the original douglas ones they are really not that heavy. if you think hipers are lighter its a myth. beadlock them to never blow a tire off again. Quote
camatv Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 if you jump sideways or ride like a goon. run a beadlock. running sand stars and beadlock its obvious your not out for performance only. Quote

Not even remotely true. I have hipers front and rear with sand star. The whoops where I ride will tear wheels apart. I've seen so many people blow beads trying to keep the psi low and run the whoops. Sand stars hold up to the shitty inconsistent jersey sand. That is dirt sand rock mix. Quote
camatv Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 then dont run 2 psi on a formed paddle.. i wouldnt ever run less than 5-8 on a sand star. here in our local ride spot i have ran 160 dwt's with no problems on formed paddles. and its heavy river rock, dirt, sand mix. BUT i'd only run paddles like skats down on the pathetic drag strip here. if any where else kenda klaws seemed to work the best. 1-2 psi might as well be flat tire. Quote
