theoriginal87
Ok so ive finally gotten around to pulling the shee out of storage and im pulling her apart as a result of a bad crank seal and other minor fixes. The bike still makes decent compression and starts on just a few kicks when cold. Regardless of having to split the case for the crank seal im going to go ahead and do a complete re-gasket/seal throughout and I wanted to go ahead and do a hone and re-ring?? I dont have as much experience as I would like to with these things and just want to know if should just go with new rings or a whole new topend? oldskool
Have your cylinders checked out. A hone and rings may be all you need. They may say you need a bore with new piston/rings, but you stated compression was ok.
BUILDER
Good rule of thumb is if the rings are wore out so are the pistons. If you feel the need to put rings in it then it is well worth the money to replace the pistons also. If the compression is still good and the pistons look fine then just put it back together run it for the season and put pistons in it before next season.
