satts Posted August 25, 2013 Report Posted August 25, 2013 Hey all ,im bout to have a frame powdercoated obviously blastered first but was jus wonderin bout all the threads where the bolts go in ,do i need to have powdered with some old ones in or do they'still work ok?also on the bottom of the sterring stem where it goes in the frame how many bearings ora there i noticed in all the new bearing kits there is only one bearing but i thinkk mine has one bearing then the hex shaped piece then another bearing ?oh also does the hex shape piece have to come out befor powder? Does it srew oit? Any help is greatly appreciated Quote
troyzstang Posted August 25, 2013 Report Posted August 25, 2013 Are you doing the powdercoat yourself? If you're having it done the shop will take care of threads before application. Quote
special06shee Posted August 25, 2013 Report Posted August 25, 2013 All bearings and seals come out of whatever is getting coated. As far as the bolt holes go, that is personal preference. I always have the powder coat sprayed over all bolt holes. Then just go over them with a tap. If you plug the bolt holes the powder has a tendency of building up around the thread plug and leaving an inconstant coating. As far as the steering stem goes, remove the seal, bearing retainer(hex thing), bearing and the stem spacer. Just show the powder coat shop where the steering stem bearing goes, they will know what yo do from there. Quote
BeeCanBanshee Posted August 25, 2013 Report Posted August 25, 2013 Got all your unwanted tabs removed? The hex screws out if you don't have a hex big enough I just used a big nut that fit it and put a cresent wrench on it. Quote
satts Posted August 25, 2013 Author Report Posted August 25, 2013 Ok thanks for the replies,so on the bottom of the stem how many bearings should there be? Quote
BeeCanBanshee Posted August 25, 2013 Report Posted August 25, 2013 Sand all your grounding spots down after you get it back or you will be posting a "no start after rebuild" thread. Quote
BeeCanBanshee Posted August 25, 2013 Report Posted August 25, 2013 One bearing and 2 seals I believe. Just order a stem bearing and seal kit Quote
BeeCanBanshee Posted August 25, 2013 Report Posted August 25, 2013 You'll probably need the upper seals and the lower stem kit. Quote
special06shee Posted August 25, 2013 Report Posted August 25, 2013 Ok thanks for the replies,so on the bottom of the stem how many bearings should there be?Two seals, one bearing, and there is a steering stem spacer so the stem nut doesent crush the bearing when tightening it down. Quote
satts Posted August 26, 2013 Author Report Posted August 26, 2013 Yeah all tabs off ,jus need to have new subframe from four wheel addiction put on,so the grounds need to be bare steel? Quote
special06shee Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 On my frame i just took the coil mounts and voltage regulator to bare metal. I also have a ground strap from my motor to my chassis Quote
BeeCanBanshee Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 If you don't use the ground strap as said above you need to have good metal to metal contact at the motor mounts. Quote
