KEVPOPPAPUMP Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 Where is the riding area in Beaumont that many speak of. I am looking for different cool places to ride locally besides Gorman, Cal City, and Dove Springs. Do any of you So Cal guys have some cool spots you'd like to share? Glamis is great and I do go there but it is not local (i.e. under 2 hours). Quote
SD4x4TRD Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 Do you know about Dumont and Ocotillo Wells? Depending on where in so cal you are you might be able to get to one or both in 2 hours or so... Quote
KEVPOPPAPUMP Posted November 5, 2003 Author Report Posted November 5, 2003 Both Dumont and Octillo are too far to go riding for the day, at least from where I am coming from, the South Bay. Quote
SD4x4TRD Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 Do you know of the riding off of soledad canyon in Canyon Country? You would enter the grounds of ROWER FLATS. The riding there is decent, and legal, let me know if you want directions... Quote
Blue Duece Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 take the 91 east to the 15 north come up to the top of the cajon pass (42 miles) exit at main street go right and up about 7 miles till you see lake hesperia entrance, turn right onto a dirt road right across from the entrance to the lake...go up a little and park, thats the north end of honda valley, theres about 500,000 acres of riding, hills, tracks, draqg strip, best place in socal for quads, some freestyle 100 footers, even a bar out in the middle of nowhere, their beers cold and have free hot dogs on sunday.....youll see a nice groomed mx track, look up at the house above it, thats my pad, ill see ya out there.....but if you want to stay on the 15 for another 40 miles to highway 58, you'll be at Dumont Dunes Quote
KEVPOPPAPUMP Posted November 5, 2003 Author Report Posted November 5, 2003 No I have never heard of Soledad Canyon in Canyon Country but it sounds like one the now burned spots. How is the riding there and yeah please post the directions if you wouldn't mind. I am printing out all the directions so when I spontaneously choose to go ride I can know how to get there. Thanks for that Blue Duece, that sounds like an awesome spot and not too far from me! Is there a charge for entrance and are there any specific hours of operation? Quote

No it's free it's the national forest......it goes from the top of the pass through big bear then west to mount baldy and north, well you could ride to las vegas or even reno nevada, where youd be at is high desert, theres riding for hundreds of miles in every direction except from the south, the way you came from the city...no rangers no limits just wide open (dont start a fire as you know we all just burned up here in cali) desert......traffic willing your probally an hour and 15 minutes away......... Alexbrooke Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 There is this kick ass spot, called Redondo Beach. Lots of sand and tons of chicks, good drag racing spot. Just make sure the lifegaurds don't catch you, or the COPS. LATER PUSSY Quote
Wallrat Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Hey I'm in the South Bay too (Redondo). Lemme know anytime you're up for a ride, I need to find some riding buddies on quads to compete with all my friends on bikes. I used to live up in Santa Clarita so I know all the hills back there fairly well. Rower flats is only one of the better known areas, there's some really great trails out over near Castaic as well. You can actually ride from Lake Hughes Rd. in Castaic almost all the way to Pyramid lake. There used to be a ton of riding in Santa Clarita but alot of it has been developed. I'm not sure how much of drinkwater flats (between San Francisquito Cny. and Bouquet Cny.) is still accessable but there's a ton of trails out there as well. Quote
Blue Duece Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 bring everyone with you Evil we'll have a blast.......ill supply the bud, beer and burgers, bring your own fuel....we will f*ck the valley up Quote
Wallrat Posted November 12, 2003 Report Posted November 12, 2003 I'm heading up to Castaic tonight, with riding tomorrow. If anyone's free tomorrow (or tonight even), you're welcome to join me. Riding is mostly fire roads through a forest/high desert setting, several stream crossings, loose dirt and some harpack. Try emailing me at [email protected] If I've already left then you can try to find the entrance to the riding area. It's been awhile since I was there so I can't really remember milages or landmarks but I do think there was a sign that said, "Ruby Canyon" at the entrance to the riding area. To get there, take the 5 north to Castaic, exit lake hughes road and make a right. Continue along lake hughes Rd. up into the hills. Ruby Cny. will be on the right side after about 20 min or so. There's a turnoff and the dirt road goes down from there to the campground. If you see Warm Springs Camp (on the left) then you just passed it. Here's a topo map of the area. Ruby canyon is the small road in the lower right portion of the map. Topo map of area click here Cya Quote
Yamahammer Posted November 13, 2003 Report Posted November 13, 2003 buemont is off the 60 right before the 10 where they come together park and ride try the south side of the street it is better drop a line if you want to head out there some time later Quote
Wallrat Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003 Ruby Cny. was kinda a bummer. Every one of the little side trails has completely overgrown so you climb up a steep ass hill and 100ft into it, it ends! Plus since I was flying solo I didn't wanna get too far away from the truck. Anyway, I did write down the directions. 5 north to Castaic, exit Lake Hughes Rd. - go east. Reset tripometer at bridge over Castaic Lagoon. At 11.5 miles, turn right on turnout and drop down hill to the creek. Don't forget there's more riding on the left hand side of Lake Hughes Rd. about 200 yards past Ruby Canyon. Quote
