spanky2001
New here, Ive searched and read posts until my eyes bleed. I bought a banshee from a friend and he didnt have the rear brake system mounted, Ive got it all mounted and have bleed it using a syringe and tube, but it keeps sucking air bubbles out of the system and the brake lever never gets stiffer. So my question is, can I be sucking air through the caliper and would a rebuild kit fix this issue. The next question is I dont know if its a stock axle, but when i press the brake lever the piston/pad move out and push the disc, shouldnt the disc get pinched and not pushed to the other pad? spanky2001
I ordered a moose rebuild kit, it seems to be well liked on here. So how do the slide pins work, does it the outside pad get sucked into the disc also? I have spent more time on this stupid brake caliper than I did tearing down the top end and setting the carbs up. Surfrjag
its a floating caliper so it needs to be able to slide keeping brake pad wear even. you can try to free it up but I just recently had to throw one in the trash and get a new one. I think it was from 1989 and it would NOT move.
BANSHEE CHAOS
Make sure your banjo fitting is tight on the master cylinder. I changed swingarms a few days ago and noticed mine had worked loose. From flopping the caliper around I'm sure. :-)
spanky2001
So I have assembled this wrong, because its not able to slide. There are 3 bolts that hold the caliper to the plate, do I not want to torque those down? Sorry for all the questions, but I have never had to mess with brakes. BANSHEE CHAOS
It doesn't slide much. The in side pushes against the rotor, pinching it against the outer pad. Then the in side slides back to clear the rotor. You can take the caliper back off, slip the pads out, spray hell out of everything with brake cleaner....get one of the little "ketchup pack" sized brake grease they keep on the counter at O'Reillys for .99 to use on the bolts. Yes torque 'em down good and snug. Edited July 20, 2013 by BANSHEE CHAOS
