Thankyou Holyman thats one of the best tips ive gotten off the HQ, i just did renew my policy and actually was more concerned that my bikes were covered and never read the fine print and am not sure id unsterstand all the mumbo jumbo they throw in to those documents anyway, my home was built in 1997 and is stucco and tile, we have taken photos of most of our furnishings and such, if i understand correctly the insurance company has a cap for disaters? and therfore can give you less based on division of claims?hopefully i wont need a claim and if i dont ill consult a attorney who can read this policy, i want to be covered for what my homes worth not what i paid or what they think i should get, even if it costs more......

You might want to check in to re-insurance on the house. Alot of big $ owners use it. For example, you'd insure with Allstate for $200,000 and the re-insurance would pick up after that. So under normal circumstances and for realistically MOST losses, the homeowners policy would take care of you but after they reach their limit, the re-insurance kicks in and pays the rest. From what I've been told, the re-insurance is pretty cheap since the only time they actually pay out is during something that would completely destroy your house or some major disaster like hurricane Hugo and the Cali fires you're experiencing. And your homeowners rates should be less too considering you're only insuring for 1/2 the REAL value of the home. I get claims on $1M+ places here in Illinois and it's not unusual to have some of them re-insured. And that is for an area where there is almost no risk of raging fires and no such thing as a hurricane.

I think at one time Sears even sold a "deductible" policy for a few bucks a year. The most they would pay out is your deductible but for only a few bucks a year, some people could raise their homeowners deductible and just about break even on the "deductible" policy. If they had a claim for most things they were out very little.

it's funny how you dont even read this kinda stuff when you buy your home, theres a stack of stuff a mile high and your just signing away, soliciters call and write me all the time wanting to evaluate my life, health, home and car insurance i allways hang up or throw it in the trash, next time ill take a consoltation maybe i can save some money and get better covarage, i think the cap they have is not written in to the plolicy yet maybe some kind of break the state or goverment gives them under disaster releif laws, all the claims would bankrupt them or some such crap......

Duece I wish you the best of luck man. I was in LA this past weekend and I saw the fires in Upland from the 210 when i was on my way to my uncles house in Fontana, I couldnt believe how bad it was. I'm really glad to hear that everybody is safe including your pets. Sorry to hear about your father also.

when it rains it pours.......

I couldnt agree with you more. I feel your pain man! stay strong were all here for you.

thanks lefty......that 210 was nasty, some prick started that fire also then it merged with the one threating my house, just jumped right over the freeway and took off, the firefighters up here are falling asleep standing up, my wife just phoned, the wind is shifting again blowing flames down the valley where i ride, she just went and crossed the picket lines at the market and got 100 burger patties, my son yanked the bbq out for the firemen and is sitting on the engine getting a tour, the guys are showering at my place and my next door neighbors place, the winds around 40mph so its anyones guess........thanks so much for the warm wishes......my father suffered in ICU for almost 6 weeks at least he's in a better place, probally chillin with my mom and older brother......

Thats awesome that you guys are helping them out. They really deserve it. Theyre out there fighting a losing battle but theyre still trying to save as much as they can. I give major props to all the fireman out there, theyre just fuckin awesome! I dont know what its like to lose a loved one but someone thats close to the family lost his daughter in a shooting at a party in south central, I never met her but the way everyone turned and after thinking what if something like that happened to someone I cared about really bummed me out. Keep us updated on how everything turns out.

if you looked up hero, balls and pride in the dictionary youd find firefighters, it takes a trophy set of nuts to walk into a 1000 degree 100 foot high wall of flame with a fuckin shovel in your hand, my wife just told me its about 40 degrees out tonight but you can feel a 100 degree breeze whipping through the valley, she says they are starting fires and putting them out, i guess so when the flames come the stuffs already burnt and cant jump that point and i see on the news some of the guys havnt slept in days i hope this little break they are getting now helps......

Man Deuce...sounds like you're having a not so good time over there...to say the least. Wish you the best...hang in there. ;) I can't even begin to imagine what you & tons of others are going through right now. shizzel, around here when a field catches fire & jumps a road to another field you'd a thought WWIII was here, can only imagine what a fire of that size is like. :o

I too live in Sand Deigo. In el cajon to be more exact. My parents had to wake up at 3 am on sunday because they live near blossem valley. We had to evaquate their horses and help neighbors whos homes had already burned down. Around noon we had to leave the house because the fire was so close.

later that Day I had to start loading up near my home also because the fire was only a mile away...No fun loading a banshee that is in pieces either! Luckily the fire never crossed back over the freeway near my home...My parents were allowed to return a day or 2 later to find their house still standing but compleatly surrounded by burn crap. We are all ok now though. Some of their neighbors on the same street were not so fortunate.

I saw on the news this morning that the first firefighter had lost his life. I too live in San Diego and have been dodging fire. It's personal, I hope they catch the bastard and make 'em pay dearly.

wow glad to hear you guys and familiys are still safe, the san diego fire is bigger than the one by my house but both have proven deadly, the fire has blown through the valley and our home is intact but i feel deeply for my friends and neighbors who have lost there homes. i heard that the san diego fires were started by a guy sending up a flare cause he was lost.......

You sound like me, if you don't have bad luck you would have no luck. You and your family are in my families prayers. I wish you the best of luck, I wish I could help out but I'm on the freakin east coast. Best of luck.
