Guest bansheeman67538235 Posted October 18, 2003 Report Posted October 18, 2003 well, i am replacing my bearings because the are bad, and i need a new sprocket, and when i took my axle off and out of the houseing im lost at exactly what to do, there is this big thing that goes almost the width of the ouhsing that moves back and forth and up and down ect..... and the thing hangs down father then the bearing edge, so like i would have to push it up to get to the top edge of the bearing, and are the bearings in ne kind of slot or ne thing, or sohuld it pop right out, someone please explain this to me Quote
BansheeBrian Posted October 18, 2003 Report Posted October 18, 2003 pull the old bearings out.It can be tough if they have been shot awhile. You might be able to pop the seal with a flathead but be careful not to mar the carrier wall. From the oppsite side you can tap out the bearing. Tap in all areas of the bearing edge top- bottom- left- right and they should pop. Quote
Holyman Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 That tube in between the bearings keeps the bearings from being pushed into the carrier too far when you tighten the axle nut. It will move around when you pull the axle out but when you slide the axle back in, it slips right where it needs to be. Make sure you grease everything and if your carrier doesn't already have one, install a grease fitting. They are less than 50 cents at most hardawre stores and all you have to do is drill a hole and gently drive it in with a hammer. I put a 1/4 deep socket over the end so it doesn't get beat up and them just tap on the socket. Quote
