How to take shocks apart?

I;m redoing my banshee and the shocks need to be cleaned and painted. I was wondering whats the easiest way to get them apart?

Trying to separate the coil spring from the shock asborber .

if i'm not mistaken, front stock shocks are non serviceable. i think the rear is, but not the front. mattscss could tell you other wise thou.

ya can get the springs off how else would people pc or chrome them?

You need a spring compressor, and I BELIEVE once you have the tension off of the spring, the lower eyelet unthreads off the shaft. I don't know though, I have never messe with those pogo sticks.

Couldn't get them to break loose if they do unscrew have no idea how to get them apart.

put them upside down in a vice the use ratchet straps to compress the spring down towards the workbench then remove the plate on top (really the bottom but its upside down) the releive pressure and slide the spring off.  Thats how a 450 shock works anyways just figured stock was the same.

450 shocks use a C-shaped spring retainer. I'm not sure banshee shocks work that way. Once you have the shock in a spring compressor, you should be able to move it around and see what needs to come off.

Yea the plates are solid on the banshee my sons blaster the plate is slotted and will slide right off with the spring compressed.
