ATVridinMaNiAc Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 Just trying to get this idea straight in my head...i want to get DMC 916s because they sound great and is one of the best pipes for my riding. Problem is i think the silencer looks dumb as hell, if i could somehow move the silencer to where it mounted up alot closer to the grab bar and didnt hang down so low i think i could deal with the look, i would even be fine with removing the tail light and putting two small round tail lights to the left and right of it. Curious if anybody has experience with altering pipes and bending them, if it would be fairly easy or if it wouldnt work very well. Between me and my dad we can do a decent bit of metal work but i was hoping maybe 1 or 2 bends in the right place would do it, just heat and bend. Id rather not cut and re-weld if i dont have to but we could, also hoping this would not change the characteristics of the pipe such minimal bends like that i doubt it would but ive never done it before, thanks for any input. SAVAGE420 Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 Sounds like you have their old style silencer with the 2 vertical rubber mounts. Quote
ATVridinMaNiAc Posted January 26, 2013 Author Report Posted January 26, 2013 Yea the 2 into 1 silencer ,well i have tr-6s now but im trying to decide if i want 916s if i get them the only way ill be satisfied with the look is if i can that silencer moved up for a more clean look, just not sure how to go about it and how hard it would be. Are you picking up a used set with the FIRST GEN silencer with the 2 vertical rubber mounts? Or the newer updated silencer with the better horizontal welded piece with rubber mounts and 2 piece adjustable hangers. I have the newer updated 916's, the bottom of the silencer sits an 1" lower then my silencers in my Rockets did. I could modify the rear upper hangers in a few minuets if i wanted to move it up a inch or more, but im happy how it is so far. There is "some" room to go up or down as is. Just buy some DMC Aliens if you don't like how it is then. Quote
ATVridinMaNiAc Posted January 26, 2013 Author Report Posted January 26, 2013 I believe its the older design, its the ones tecate is selling on here. Ive seen them on others banshees and they sit way to low id want to try and move them up tighter against frame. Im kind of surprised i couldnt find any info on this, i figured somebody else has done this before since it would look alot better. Quote
SAVAGE420 Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 "Just buy some DMC Aliens if you don't like how it is then." Exact same shit, diff pile. Pretty straight forward to bend some standard 1" pipe though man. So easy a cave man can do it. Quote
ATVridinMaNiAc Posted January 26, 2013 Author Report Posted January 26, 2013 I wouldnt bother buying a newer set of pipes when i can get a good set used on here. Yea i guess it would be pretty simple to bend the piping just wanted to get some thoughts on doing so since i couldnt find any info on anybody else doing it. Still not sure how to go about it, definitely not wanting to cut and reweld id really like to get away with just heating and bending, but ive had no experience with having to do this to a pipe before also.
