I have a 1989 shee, the on/off key switch has been bypass by snipping the red/black wire and the black wire and soldering them together, but i wanted to put the key switch back on to prevent people from riding it witout me knowing. So i purchased a new key swich and i connected in the new switch and the switch doesn't do anything. The engine runs when the key is in both the 'on' and 'off' positions. Even when i totally disconnected the switch from the harness the engine still runs. Any ideas why the key switch isn't doing anything? I checked the switch for continuity and it's fine. I also replaced the complete wire harness.

The "main switch" is your key, the "engine stop switch" is your handlebar switch.

I've replaced the entire wiring harness, I know the ground wire has to be okay because that ground wire supplies the ground to other components that work fine. Could it be something in the CDI?
