I run a T.M. Design case saver. It's plastic and has some give if the chain were to break. It fits over the shaft the sprocket goes on and is quite beefy. Well work the money I think. I personally like it much better than the metal ones.

If you need the case repaired find a shop that TIG welds and they should be able to repair it for you. Then install a case saver to keep it from happening again.
