pancake bearing

I am in the middle of changing my clutch and doing the shift star mod. I have everything together but ran into a problem. When I pull on the clutch lever the clutch doesn't disengage all the way because the pancake bearing hits the inside of the clutch clover. I adjusted the pancake bearing so that the line on the clutch cable and case line up. I've read that some people adjust it so that the cable goes about 1/4" past the mark on the case. Is this okay to do and will this allow the pancake bearing to not hit the inside clutch cover when I pull in the clutch. Any help is appreciated.

 

I also didn't pay attention to the arrows on the pp or inner hub. Everything seated okay and tightened up. Should I recheck the arrows or does it not matter. It's been a long time since I've done a clutch and am super rusty!

what brand pancake bearing is it and how many threads are sticking out ? on mine, only 2 threads are sticking out of the nut but thats not on a stock pp

 

if the pp seated correctly it should be fine, it doesnt go on straight other wise.

I got the pancake bearing from Kevin (HJR). There are at least six threads showing. If i screw it in more, it moves past the marker on the case and there is zero play in my clutch lever. I think the screw is too long.

you can try cutting 2/3 threads off, see if that helps and adjust it a touch past the arrows. just make sure the end of the cut adjuster is smooth.

There are 2 different adjustment screws. One for stock 7 plate and a longer one for 8 plate. You obviously have the longer one and need the shorter one.

The screw is dished on the end that contacts the ball. The stock screw is too short. If you're set on cutting yours, I would cut the other end and cut a screwdriver slot in it for adjusting.

I don't know why but this pancake bearing has been the hardest thing I have done on my banshee. I got a shorter screw and it is too short. The long screw is too long. I need one that's in the middle. I have been messing with this for 3 days now and have made no progress. I am just going to have to cut down the longer screw in order for it to clear the clutch cover. I've made adjustments on both the pancake screw and the clutch lever to try to get this thing to clear but no luck. Either too long or too short.

measure the fibers and the steels to factory spec.

I had the same issue with a pancake bearing install. I bought it from HJR. It was hitting the cover on a fresh ground up rebuild. I couldn't figure it out until I spoke with Kevin and discovered a longer bolt was sent to me by accident. Not a big deal I told him not to waste the money on shipping me out a new one...I just cut it down a few threads and notched the end for future adjustments with flat head screwdriver. This should fix your problem. I about went nuts trying to figure out what was going on with mine lol. By the way I'm not bashing HJR ...excellent customer service, great products, and awesome work!!!! Good luck.
