So I have been staking out the local classified adds and have been narrowing down the shees for sale and was wondering if anyone has any big items to watch for, both good and bad. I saw somewhere on here talking about shaking it down and what not. And im good with all that but is there any mods to stay away from or ones to chase down? And would an older bike be just as good off as a newer? Ill be doing all around riding from dunes to mountain roads. Thanks for any input you all have! I bow to your knowledge :notworthy:

If your budget allows... I would say the newer the better (even though they have nit changed much over the years). Of course the cleaner and in best overall condition would be great. Maybe close to stock, with just bolt ons would be good. Bring a compression gauge to test the overall engine health out. It seems to be a buyer's market with a crappy economy, and the fact the 4 strokes are now way more popular. Find one from a forum member would probably be a good idea as well. I guess it all depends on your budget and goals with the bike. Do you plan on rebuilding it into a monster? Or just a fun play bike? The early ones had J arm front suspension, which is hard to get aftermarket support for.

Look for a clean bike you just can't pass up buying. In my opinion, a banshee owner should know every part on the bike and whether its ever been rebuilt or not...and how many times it has been rebuilt. Etc.

If the owner can't tell you hardly anything about the bike, but they have owned it for years...maybe its not the bike for you. I know its not always easy but I always try to buy 1 owner bikes, that way you know who has had them since brand new.

The only difference between j arms and a arms is just that the front suspension lol otherwise everything else is just the same... Myself I got an 87 for 1400$ that JUST got it's first rebuild and dune port for more power. All depends on how the quad was maintained and how much your looking to spend.
