bigpanther2004 Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 i got a 98 shee just got done riding at silver lake and when i was drag racing ( just for fun with friends) when i was shifting it would keep missing 3rd gear. and also i couple of times i would be in 6th gear and it would just slip out of that gear and then go to 5th. Also another thing is that when its idling and u pull the clutch in and go to first it sounds like the clutch isnt disengaging just kinda sounds nasty. hopefully someone can think of somthing for me Quote
toytech Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 (edited) your lucky mine only shifts into first gear good the rest suck!! check out tyson racing or WCR time for another money injection Edited May 17, 2011 by toytech Quote
bigpanther2004 Posted May 17, 2011 Author Report Posted May 17, 2011 what do you think it could be? i was thinking maybe where u adjust the roller? i put a new star in from cascade also the roller too, maybe it didnt get set up right Quote
devious007 Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 i had problems with shifting i would check to see if ur shift star has damage or the claw on the shift shaft sometings the rivit on the shift shaft gets stuck on the star also the bushing on the shaft get worn down and causes the shifter to act wierd hope this helps Quote
bigpanther2004 Posted May 17, 2011 Author Report Posted May 17, 2011 the star is brand new and so is the roller, i am going to take it off and see what i can find, also thought about taking the gears out and grinding off some cogs, has anyone done that? the biggest problem i have is i just redid all this about 2 months ago with the motor guess ill have to do it all over again lol Quote
camatv Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 thisis VERY common as is all the GIMICKS out there to try and "fix" the problem. most are a band aid backyard fix that WONT work.. if you ONLY drag race get an override.. if you actually ride your bike like MOST of us do you need what i'd call a modified stock trans or a super stocker something like that.. when i figured it out oh so many years ago i did them for MX bikes. you think missing 3rd on a drag race is bad think about it false neutraling on the face of a jump!!! the mod is very simple all in all. but takes time to do as the cases need split so the trans will come out.. i have gear sets already cut and ready to switch out. WCR also offers this mod as do MANY other site sponsors. just be SURE of what you are getting if you DONT want an override DONT get one!! Quote

How did you get that out of Cam's post? I believe he is talking about removing every other gear cog to allow more room for dog engagement. Quote
AKheathen Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 first thing i would do is split the case and see......... it could be that you left out a circlip, or have a bent fork, or even that the gears are loaded up with clutch material, or even a bearing. either way, something is not lined up, and you should feel it in the shifter if there was a problem with the star, or shift arm..
