bksdesign Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 I have an 02 Banshee with toomey pipes and K&N filters on it. It is jetted with 280s and 25 pilots. I just bought it and it had a twist throttle. I just changed it to a thumb throttle, and resynced the carbs. A couple times when it was parked with the gas on it would leak fuel from the overflow tube, so while it was apart I raised the floats to 21mm. I also checked the airscrews and they were 1 and a 1/4 out so I set them to 11/2 out. Now here is my questiion, I just test road it and its running real good, but when I parked it there was a small amount of smoke coming from the black hoses in the middle of the tommey T5 exaust. Not smoke like leaking, smoke like its very hot. I also noticed it was a little harder to start, it started and died a couple times before it started running good. Are the toomeys suppose to have black hose in the middle under the seat? Has anyone had it smoke like that before. I am scared its running lean due to my tinkering on it, because its running real good. Also I changed the angled air jet thats on the air fliter side of the carbs from 11/4 turns to 11/2 turns out because thats the setting on the toomey site. did that lean it out? Please help I do not want to blow it up. Thanks Quote
Jereme6655 Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 bk....welcome to the HQ buddy. Well.....its simple to find out if your running lean or not. What you need to do is a plug-chop. Warm your bike up with the current plugs in it......then shut it off and put in BRAND NEW plugs......fire it up and immediately do a full throttle run to the top of 6th gear. Then as soon as you hit the top of 6th.....pull the clutch in and shut the motor off and coast to a stop. pull out your test plugs and reinstall your old plugs and ride home.......then cut the threads off of the test plugs.... if its running correct it should be a milk choclaty color.......like a medium brown. if its a tan color its running too lean......if its a dark brown its running too rich. That's how you check if a 2stroke is jetted correctly. since you also have an aftermarket exhaust......id suggest rejetting the pilot jets to a 27.5 this way they flow a little more fuel at idle and it will also help with start-up Quote
