I've been considering running K&N Pod filters on my PWK 28mm carbs. Since it's a trail/play machine and from time to time there's a little water on the trails that might splash a little, I was wonder if it's safe to run Pods with Outerwears without running the risk of getting water in my carbs. I'd really like to ditch the airbox and gain the extra power if the Outerwears will protect from light water splashes. I don't go looking for mudholes by anymeans.

Also, if it's not recommended to run Pods anywhere near water, what are my options for connecting the PWK 28's to the airbox? The factory boots won't stretch over the new carbs like I thought they would. Anybody use the rubber couplers from Home Depot or Lowes?

I'm ready to start riding to play with jetting, but can't do it until I have the airbox connected or buy Pods.

Thanks for any help!

Generally where I ride there's no water so I'm not worried about my pods getting wet. However, last year racing around a new trail following the leader (I was behind the leader in group two, one of the fastest paced racers for A-B class rider) so we were flyin pretty quick. We came upon some heavily mudded/wet low lands that I was never aware of and I got covered head to toe in mud and water. I did not have any problems. At least with my wider suspension, not a whole lot of water or mud flings up the middle and into the carb area. This year I might just make a splash shield to bolt on underneath for when I ride a potentially muddy area.

I don't know if this would help but with my PWK 35's my stock boots would not fit to the airbox either. I ran across a how-to topic on duncanracing.com ....click on tech, carbs, and banshee ...you will see it. This mod was for 34 and 35 carbs but it just might work on your 28's too. Basically you cut the boot right behind the little ring around the small end where it starts to get bigger.....this allows you to strech it over the carb easier and just use a hose clamp to attach it back on your carb. Be sure it don't put you a little short on mounting back your airbox....I didn't have this problem with the larger 35's. Let me know how that works. Sometimes putting rubber in hot water for a few minutes will let it strech easier so you may want to try that first befor you go cutting your boots up. Hope this helps you out some.

Thanks for the help, guys.

I ended up getting the boots to stretch over the carbs, which was a pleasant surprise. I guess the problem last time I tried to fit them was that it was freezing outside so the rubber boots weren't very easy to work with. I think I'll still run pods, though. I'd love to get rid of the big clunky airbox for good.

Go with UNI 2 stage pod filters and get outerwears for them . if you hit a few puddles now and again , you won't have any issues , no creek crossing though .

I mostly ride trails and I'm gonna ditch my box and go with the pods too...I think I will be fine. Just try to avoid the deep water. Glad u got it to work out!
