sandman643cc Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Hello All! I recently purchased trail tech headlights and a pro design kill switch. My plan is to eliminate the stock on/off switch but still want to run lights on occasion. 3 questions.... What wires do I tap into on the harness for the lights so they are Always ON? ( I will make quick connects for when I run lights) there is 2 wires on lights which wire is what or does it matter? 2 what wires do I tap into ( on harness not coil) so the kill switch functions properly? I have viewed the wiring diagram and think I might no what wires to use but am second guessing myself and am just unsure. my bike is a 2000 and the wires I have to choose from are: black/white stripe, blue, black, yellow. sorry my pictures may not load, but thanks in advance for everyones help!!!! Which style kill switch do you have- normally open or normally closed? Quote
sandman643cc Posted March 15, 2011 Author Report Posted March 15, 2011 normally open I guess I'm not sure what you mean of open or closed Quote
bansheesandrider Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 With the clip installed in the switch as it would be when you are riding the bike, connect an ohmmeter to the 2 wires and check the reading- it will either be infinite(open) or close to zero(closed). Quote
sandman643cc Posted March 16, 2011 Author Report Posted March 16, 2011 ok, it is a normally open switch. Quote
Hilarious Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Hook your kill switch/ teather to the black/white stripe wire. Pay attention to the polarity. Hook it up backwards and you may get a shocking experience out of it. Yellow should be the hot for the lights straight off the stator. Keep in mind you will need to keep the voltage regulator to run the lights. Quote
sandman643cc Posted March 17, 2011 Author Report Posted March 17, 2011 hilareous. Thanks for the reply, there are 2 yellow wires going to the plug, one goes to the stock lights so I believe you are speaking of the other yellow wire. Also will I ground the other wire coming from lights? and the teather kill I can connect one wire to ground and one wire to the black/white wire. there is one wire left and that's the blue wire should I connect that to anything or just wire nut the end? The blue wire is for the tail light. If you are keeping the tail light then you need to splice it to the yellow also. If you are not running a tail light you can remove it or just tape it up. Quote
sandman643cc Posted March 17, 2011 Author Report Posted March 17, 2011 thanks sandrider! I forgot to mention that I was running tailight as well. I will make some connections and see what comes of it. I will let everyone no how it turns out. Quote
