So I picked up an 86 Tri-Z ($400). I'm going to start tearing apart this weekend to PC the frame and go through the whole thing minus motor (runs great). I was looking at new plastics and know I can't afford them now so I need help restoring the old if possible. Looks like it's been sitting in the sun for years. I did a little looking around and seems like paint or sanding is my options. Please advise which works best. Any products and where I can get them would be appreciated also. Thanks ahead of time.

I have used a plastic renewal kit in the past with good results. I will check the company that makes it for you, but it is a three stage setup. The 1st and 2nd stage are almost like a rubbing compound that take the top layer off and brings back a nice shine, with the 3rd stage basically buffing them. I have never been a fan of painting plastics personally.

if the finish on teh plastics looks like fuzz its JUNK you can try to hit it with some rattle can paint for plastics. if you bought it for 400 why not just do it right. i personally would just ride it till it broke and sell it.

Thanks for the help fella's. I'll order some of the plastic resoration. If that doesn't work I'll paint it for now and buy new later. I'm tearing it down today for powdercoat this week. I personally would rather rebuild the whole thing so I can run it for a lifetime. Thanks again, ...

wet sand it wit 400 grit, use bulldog adheshion promotor and flex agent and omni polyurathane clearcoat, looks better than new and holds up great

Are you making it a show piece or a riding trike? Steel wool works really good on removing all of that "crust" and what not. Or you could try wet sanding. Painting plastic to me doesn't sound like a good idea. One scratch in the paint it will look like crap. OR you could just buy new plastic piece by piece and save a lot of effort.
