Looking to buy Serval soon I know transfer cases need to be ported to match, how much will i lose if I dont port them to match intake ports on the Serval? Andy at M&M says not really a big deal but i'm a lil skeptical.

I was told it was only worth about 2 hp on a cub when i built mine. Serval would be about same i imagine as its the same casting as the cub. I wouldnt sweat it

If Andy says it won't be a big deal, I would listen to him. These sponsors on here are the true banshee gods and they know there shit IMO.

But I'm sure every little bit helps.

Is your engine currently a 4 mil? If not, step up to a 4 mil (you will need a reinforced crank anyway) and while the cases are split, have the match porting done. Problem solved!

No its not but the 4mil Serval is the motor I'm going with just need to find someone local to do the porting I guess. Trinity is two blocks from me but I wouldn't let them wash my bike let alone port it.

Well you can probably only port the cases when they are apart, so this will be the perfect time. 2-3 horse for 75 bucks, plus the peace of mind of no regrets.

I think HJR is in So Cal, is that close to you?

HJR is about a 45 minute drive from me but I think I'm going to see if another builder I know can do some magic on them.

in my OPINION the cub, serv, cheeta all should have case porting done they also (in my opinion) MUST have the top case filled for better sealing on the base gasket. i also only use the cometic alluminum former base gasket for them ( the .18 tho one) its easy to see why IF you have it case ported the mis match from the cases is significant.

Can you explain what you mean by "top case filled for better sealing on the base gasket"?

I also use the .018 gasket, they epoxy the holes in the top case on front, back, some epoxy the transfer gullies as well as drill the holes out for better lubrication on crank bearings,In my opinion case porting is a must

If your gonna have the cases apart i would recommend it then your bottom end is DONE and you wont have to tear it back apart to do it later. Worth about 2-3 hp.

I personally would tear mine apart just to match port the cases even if it wasn't gonna be apart. Im anal though. :shrugani:

same, thats free hp.

i think its different with stock cylinders than after market cylinders as retrieved hp goes, as the serval transfers are bigger than stock. so they may be a bigger increase than 2-3hp.

id do it...

SOS: when porting for a cub or a maxed stock cly, the base gasket transfer area gets a bit skinny, so you epoxy the outer sides of the transfer, so there is more surface area for the base gasket to seal between the case and the cylinder.
