Does anyone know if you can run fmf sst's without the silencers on? I was wondering if there would be any performance gain by running straight pipe out the back, off the head pipes instead of the silencers? Would it hurt or help the motor? I know it should sound good, but don't know if it's a good idea or not. If I did do this, I'd only be doing it for draggin, not regular ridin.

I am sure you won't see any performance out of it. You will however see a lot more people annoyed by your bike and possibly a noise related warning/ticket.

The SSTs aren't much of a drag pipe anyway. They have a stronger mid-hit than the the gold series but fall off slightly sooner.

Yeah, plus if you pull the silencers off, you'll change the flow and then your jetting will be off. If your dragging and have those pipes, you have the wrong pipes. If your just trying to go a little faster for a few drag runs, your going to end up doing more harm than good. Just run what you have and smile. If it's not enough....start building. ;)

IMHO I would think it would almost hurt the performance of your bike. I've always thought even running silencers without packing can hurt performance.

If you want a drag pipe, I would get something thats a real built drag pipe... Shearer OOF or CPI OOF. I see alot of guys lately even running silenced OOF pipes.
