Bent Frame

I was riding through some corn fields the other day a pulled an unexpected wheelie. The grab bar dug into the ground pretty good and got bent. I got a new grab bar and intstalled it, but I noticed that it is about 1.5 inches higher than it should be. So I looked at the frame and it's bent as well.

 

Here's the question: If I heat up the frame and bend it back, would I be doing more damage than good? As it is right now noone would really know, but it drives me crazy if stuff isn't right.

don't heat a frame. put the old grab bar back on and use a 2x4 and pry under the grab bar bolts on the frame. just a tad, if you bend it too far and have to go the other way you are risking making the metal weak. other than that i have no advice.

leave it alone. if you bend it back you will just weakin that spot. and i'm sure thats not your last wheelie your going to do.i did that same thing to mine and after a yr i forgot about it til now.

Well, I'll say that almost every banshee in our ride group had the tail bent like that to some extent. It might not seam like a big deal...untill a part doesn't fit right. Like an FMF exhaust. They use 2 bolts to mount the silencers, and if the tail is bent, that triangle of bolts and head pipe doesn't line up anymore. You'll also find that plastics, seat latches, and grab bars all count on that tail angle being correct for them to fit right. That may not be your last time going over backwards.....but if it bends 1.5" every time....sooner or later your going to trash an exhaust. We bend them back with a electrical conduit bender before we do a makeover on a bike and send it to powder coat. Otherwise a long pipe or 2X4 will work if the motors still in the frame.
