This might sound like a stupid question but what does timing mean like how does it know when u go up

[The stator and the flywheel make spark together. Going up or advancing timing is making it make spark earlier then its suppose to. You measure timing in degrees. Plus 4 degrees will make it spark earlier. minus 4 would make it spark later which im sure you dont want to do. advancing is a good cheap little way to squeeze a hp or two out of a good running motor
