Here is the deal my bike needs a new stator and I can't afford a new one so is it possible to test a stator that's out of a bike to make sure I'm not buying a dead one? Hope you guys can help me on this one.

get a clymers manual. it tells you how to test everything. i wish i had mine right now i would quote it but if you have a resistance tester, test for resistance in the red wire and the green wire i think. they are the ones that go to the stator. not the red/white and the green/white (they go to the pickup coil). if its good there should be between (dont quote me on this trying to remember) 80-130 ohms? if its bad there will be infinite resistance. if im wrong (and im pretty sure i am) maybe someone else can chime in.

I figured testing the green to red would be the same whether its in the bike or not but I was wondering if maybe since its not in the bike and attached to the rest of the electrical system if the values etc would be different.

it's the same on, or off the bike 13.7-21.4, i believe, red-to green....and like 90-120 for red/white to green/white..
