2jugrider Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Last wknd. the shifter got real sloppy and stuck in 2nd. Got home and took the clutch cover off and found the shifter eccentric screw stud sheared off at the case. Any thoughts why this happened? Once I pull the clutch basket off I can have a better look at everything else (don't have a 32mm socket until tomorrow). Thanks 2jug Quote
SAVAGE420 Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Did the same thing to me a couple years ago, shit just happens i guess. Was stuck between 3-4 gear, sucked trying to get off the mountain. Did yours shear off flush with the case? If it did, it looks like a PITA to get out but it's pretty easy with a punch and hammer getting it to slowly turn out until you can get needle nose vise grips on it. Throw the new one in and set it up the "proper way" and lock it in place then rock out. Quote
GNR101 Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 happend to me about a month ago... *shrug* mine got jammed up inside so i had to split the cases now all fixed and good as new ... Quote
2jugrider Posted October 6, 2010 Author Report Posted October 6, 2010 I was surprised it broke off since I really wasn't shifting hard or anything. Anyone here a good parts source or just use my local dealer? Since I'm in there I plan on getting the mull eng. shift star and maybe stiffer clutch springs. My clutch was slipping even though the plates are within spec and it was adjusted properly. I'm just running abt. 65 hp on a dune port 350. Thanks 2jug Quote
SAVAGE420 Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Sounds good, do your shift shaft also. http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=126900&view=&hl=shift%20shaft%20mod&fromsearch=1 I actually just made my own eccentric bolt in a pinch to ride when it broke and ended up just running it for 2 seasons with it like that. I just cut a head off a bolt, cut to length, cut a notch in the top and bent it slightly in a vise. Worked perfect too. can see the one i made quick in the 3rd pic. Now have an extra one in the tool box for a rainy day. Quote
2jugrider Posted October 9, 2010 Author Report Posted October 9, 2010 Thanks for the info. I got the parts, just needed the eccentric bolt. The one left in the case had a burr and spun out with a punch easily. One thought about why it broke: The shaft that the shift forks ride on was sticking out from the case. I pushed it back in and it felt like it was spring loaded. I ran the gears through and it seems to be staying in now. The only thing holding that rod in is the lock nut for the eccentric bolt, and it is only covering some of it. It's like it levered the bolt and broke it. Hoping my tranny is not messed up but I guess I will find out soon enough. oh, and I did the shift star mod myself on our plethora of grinders @ work. turned out great! Now to mod the shift shaft. I like cheap mods. How about shimming the clutch springs? Bad idea? Thanks 2jug Quote
SAVAGE420 Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 Im pretty sure part of the lock washer for the eccentric screw/nut holds that shaft in also a bit as theres 2 tabs on it. Im certain your fine there. Its cant come out very far anyways unless your cases are apart. I would leave springs as is. What ones are they Stock? Quote
2jugrider Posted October 9, 2010 Author Report Posted October 9, 2010 I wish I knew, it's whatever the previous owner used. Prob just get a new clutch setup and call it a day. Thanks 2jug Quote
