  1. I wish I knew, it's whatever the previous owner used. Prob just get a new clutch setup and call it a day. Thanks 2jug
  2. Thanks for the info. I got the parts, just needed the eccentric bolt. The one left in the case had a burr and spun out with a punch easily. One thought about why it broke: The shaft that the shift forks ride on was sticking out from the case. I pushed it back in and it felt like it was spring loaded. I ran the gears through and it seems to be staying in now. The only thing holding that rod in is the lock nut for the eccentric bolt, and it is only covering some of it. It's like it levered the bolt and broke it. Hoping my tranny is not messed up but I guess I will find out soon enough. oh, and I did the shift star mod myself on our plethora of grinders @ work. turned out great! Now to mod the shift shaft. I like cheap mods. How about shimming the clutch springs? Bad idea? Thanks 2jug
  3. I was surprised it broke off since I really wasn't shifting hard or anything. Anyone here a good parts source or just use my local dealer? Since I'm in there I plan on getting the mull eng. shift star and maybe stiffer clutch springs. My clutch was slipping even though the plates are within spec and it was adjusted properly. I'm just running abt. 65 hp on a dune port 350. Thanks 2jug
  4. Last wknd. the shifter got real sloppy and stuck in 2nd. Got home and took the clutch cover off and found the shifter eccentric screw stud sheared off at the case. Any thoughts why this happened? Once I pull the clutch basket off I can have a better look at everything else (don't have a 32mm socket until tomorrow). Thanks 2jug
  5. It's not cutting in a new trail if it is in bounds. It was sand before the USFS planted the invasive european grass. We are doing the dunes a favor by riding the overgrown areas. As far as being a different time, yeah it was a better time, now everyone is so brainwashed with planet earth stuff. The miniscule areas that we can actually ride are a drop in the bucket to the total land area in the US. Never give up or back down to the USFS or government trying to tell us what to do with OUR land. Like the Blue Ribbon Coalition motto says '...for the people not from the people' 2jug
  6. Yeah, I don't like the look of the big tank. I will just come up w/ an extra tank setup. I was thinking that it would be cool to set up the extra tank w/ a line from the main tank so it fills up automatically. Of course it would have to be low enough but a custom fab. alum. tank (any leads?) that was 1 gal or so. It would be pretty easy to fit in somewhere under the seat (a bannana shaped rectangle I suppose) NIce thing about it is that it keeps the weight lower and centered. Put this on the list of cool stuff to do someday. 2jug
  7. Seems like I am always heading back to camp to refuel, even my kids 90cc quads outlast me. Any one put a larger tank with the fullbore plastic? I don't mind trimming it. Or maybe a custom tank under the seat as a reserve? (fake nitrous bottle, or?) Thanks 2jug
  8. Could you have a bad elec. connection? Is the pickup at the stator gapped properly. Try to slowly eliminate if it's fuel or elec. The fuel line could be old, leaking, sucking air at carb fittings, etc...
  9. According to USFS rules Oregon dunes requires spark arrestors, had a ranger verify this. I called cascade to see if they are going to make some sparky caps for csfx silencers, nope. So now that I'm quiet it's not good enough? Is the sand in danger of catching on fire At what point do we just give up on abiding by the law and just turn into outlaws from Mad Max or something! Oh wait, we ride Banshees, we already are! (Just don't expect me to wear assless chaps Just had to rant. 2jug
  10. Update! The special schrader valve in my sears/actron tester was bad. I took it out to inspect it and it fell apart. I suspected something was up when I tested it again and the compression jumped up to 140 and then dropped to 100, then to 0! Problem now is sears disco'd the part but it appears similar to what the other testers use. It has to be a special light spring, the bike or car ones are too heavy to let the compression by properly, or so I'm told. I also pulled the t5's off to replace the o ring and took a look at the piston/cyl. Looks like new, no scoring, carbon on piston sides, etc.... will let you know what I find when I get the tester fixed. Thanks
  11. The best I can figure is that it hasn't been rebuilt since it was done by Patriot 5 years ago. The only way to test my compression gauge is to compare it to a known good one or maybe an air tank with a known pressure in it. Can I pull the cool head off to check the dome cc and re-use the o-rings? Thanks
  12. I recently purchased a custom banshee (my first one!) that has a Patriot racing built 350 dune port motor. It is supposed to only run 110 octane race gas according to Patriot. I recently checked the compression and am getting 120 psi at best, hardly race gas territory. It seems to run good but being new to banshees I don't know what to compare it to. I did the check with the motor cold and pulled both plugs and kicked it over as fast as possible. Tried it with carbs wide open, one plug in, etc... same results. So I guess its time for a rebuild? Can port work make compression reading difficult? If I ride it anymore before the rebuild should I just run super? Thanks for any advice!
  13. What's on your mind?

  14. OK so my wheels now are 2"outside 4" inside. The wheel flip would definately change the steering geometry. However in the sand it's not like a rough trail with roots and rocks. I would have to flip the tires as well since they are a side specific rib. It has douglas on the rear so maybe just get new douglas rims with a neg offset while I'm at it. Thanks
