sp1tekiller Posted September 25, 2010 Report Posted September 25, 2010 The kickstart on my buddy's Banshee won't wing out. It's like it's locked in the closed position. Is there any fix for this that doesn't involve buying a new kicker? Quote
bansheesandrider Posted September 25, 2010 Report Posted September 25, 2010 Yea, buy a kickstarter repair kit from Cascade or some of the other vendors on here and rebuild it. Also, if you do a search on here, there is a thread about an alternative way of fixing it. Quote

Take apart your kickstarter, and put an oring that barely fits around the ball in there. Problem solved, forever... for practically free... Quote
GrMeyer Posted September 25, 2010 Report Posted September 25, 2010 Had that shit happen to men in the middle of the dunes. Lucky one of the rails that was with us had some Penetrating oil. Sprayed the F out of it and about 3 mins and a good kick. The thing came loose. Quote
sp1tekiller Posted September 25, 2010 Author Report Posted September 25, 2010 I just sprayed the shit out of it with some WD-40. Not expecting much, but it's all I can do right now. Don't feel like driving all the way to the Yamaha dealer today. I'll try find some other shit to spray on to. Thanks guys. Quote
bonbon Posted September 25, 2010 Report Posted September 25, 2010 If you are at home it is best to pull it off and apart. Clean the shit out of it and like they said, a new o-ring or a rebuild kit is the easiest. If it happens in the middle of the dunes just smack it on the side by where it rotates as you are trying to pull it out. It will come loose. Quote

Spraying it will work temporarily, but in the long run it's just going to attract dirt and other shit in there making the problem worse. Spend the 15 minutes and take it apart. It's two bolts, piece of cake. Quote
sp1tekiller Posted September 25, 2010 Author Report Posted September 25, 2010 Spraying it didn't help anyways, so I guess I'll just take it apart later on. Quote
sp1tekiller Posted September 25, 2010 Author Report Posted September 25, 2010 Well, I took it apart and pulled the ball, spring and O-ring out. Put it back on just to get it started while I wait to get a rebuild kit. I won't get a chance to go to the dealer until Monday at least, but is there a chance that they will STOCK the kit, or will I have to order it do you think? Quote
GrMeyer Posted September 25, 2010 Report Posted September 25, 2010 Why are you wanting to buy a rebuild kit from the stealer ship? There is a How 2 on there about how to fix the kick starter and the known rattle forever. All you need is the local ACE (is the place). I have still yet to go get the parts and do it. Kind of gives me something to think about while I ride and listen to the rattle. Quote
donkeypuncher Posted September 26, 2010 Report Posted September 26, 2010 permanant kicker rebuild Quote

As far as I know, Yamaha DOES NOT offer a kit. They only sell the individual pieces. It depends on your dealership, if they are ATV oriented they may stock it, if they are street oriented, then you will be ordering. My local dealer, which is the biggest in the Portland metro area did not stock one part for a Banshee when I bought my first one new in 1989. Quote
