ACOLDTO1L3TS3AT Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 (edited) Arrgghh, I recently bought a 1994 banshee from a guy I knew, but the thing was he didnt have a title for it... the vehicle has been around so long, so I was thinking maybe it was lost during that time period from being through so many hands. So after about a month of contemplating, I decide to call the local dmv to git the vin number ran, so the guy runs it and tell me its def. not stolen cause it hasnt been reported as, he said the original owner had it registered it 1993(94 models must of came out in 93 or something) and that the registration and titles expired in 1997 and the guy never bothered renewing them cause he prolly lost them or something, so he prolly sold it without the titles and it was history from there... what do you guys think of this situation and what should I do? The guy at the dmv said bring the vin to the notary or something and theyll take care of me. Can I get titles or bond titles and get it registered? Bring it to a yamaha dealership? I dont know what to do. Yeah, my fault from the get go... shouldve never did it I guess. Thanks for any help. Edited September 18, 2010 by ACOLDTO1L3TS3AT Quote
az_dude Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 Well in AZ you usually have to apply for an abandoned title at the dmv. More than likely its probably gonna be a drag cause that stuff takes time. But if you already bought it might as well start the process. Or you can part it out. Either way good luck Quote
Judge1 Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 Just get a bonded title. You know it has not be stolen and may have or have not been titled before. A lot of folks by these things and don't ever pays the taxes so the title is never issued. Builders who make custom bikes get titles. A bonded title is just the way to buy a title for the average joe. Casecade will sell a new titled frame for $800. Now if you are BSing and the bike is stolen I would not run the vin with the dmv. Some guys just buy a titled frame for $200-300 and switch everything over. It is all just a game for these off road vehicles that shouldn't have to be registered anyway. I am sure some will disagree with me on this and say how do you prove ownership? Yamaha will gladly sell you a frame for $700 without numbers. Who is to say you didn't build a bike from scratch with one of those? There should be a better system for showing ownership for off road vehicles. If the guy you bought it from is the original owner he should be able to apply for a replacement title. Quote
sleeper06 Posted September 19, 2010 Report Posted September 19, 2010 What i do is write a bill of sale with the vin# on it listing you as the buyer for $300 so taxes are low,State that you have had the vehicle for three years and never had it registered but you figured you would go ligit, rememberto date the bill of sale three years prior or so.If you have been in possesion of the machine for more than two years they will give you a non-transferable regy till the vin clears as not stolen .The bill of sale can come from one of your buddies no problem,I do this shit all the time nobody ever has titles, also find the cute one and flirt away Quote
