  1. Im currently running a 17/41 setup right now. I heard the bigger the sprocket in the front and smaller in the back = more top and less low end, and smaller in the front and bigger in the back = more low end and less top end, but that dont sound right, like it should be vice versa... so what exactly is true? Like, if its a small gear in the front and big in the rear it might take 1 full rotation of the pinion to only spin the rear wheel 1/3 of a time, where is if it big in the front and small in the rear one full pinion rotation will make the real wheel spin 2 times kind of thing? What would you do if you wanted more top end or low end persay? Just a little input please. Thanks.
  2. Update: I finally got around to getting it around the corner, the owner of the shop said hell take a look at it and give me a call/estimate sooo... I get a call from him a few days later, and he tells me my piston rings some how broke and the chips/pieces are what caused the damage, for a total top end rebuild-cylinders bored, new pistons, jetting, air filter, and carbs (I knew i would of needed them, i was running without an air filter, yeah yeah yeah) he said hell do everything like tune it and whatnot for me for $900... should i do it? I know its expensive, but i bought it the thing running for $1,000 so i wouldnt mind, i was planned on selling it when it got out the shop anyway. And to be honest, I think hes a bullshitter and someone who think he can rip people off lol... but i got no choice really... Thanks.
  3. I run a pint of yamalube to 5 gallons of gas, but imma be honest with you guys, it was sold to me without an air filter and was kept like that... i was running it without one it was street riding for short distances and not a long time though never dirt, and im not sure of my elevation, im in New orleans, La though if that help, and not sure of my timing or jeting either. But about getting it fixed, they have a atv racing shops that mods engines by my house, i called them a while back and they said it $40 to bore each cylinder so $80 total, should i just bring the whole engine in the shop, or bring the whole 4 wheeler in, cause idk if theyre gonna have to start it and test it or what? I just need a little help where to steer when it comes to this, im not too familiar with getting 2 strokes worked on... I dont wanna have to ship stuff off if they got a shop right by my house that will do everything. Thanks.
  4. So a few months ago I purchased a 1994 banshee, bone stock never had any work done to it... compression was relatively good. So the more i ride it, the more the compression goes down, and i mean it was going down fast, till pushing the kickstart was like putting a hot knife in butter and it wont start no more... so i let it sit up for a while and finally get bored, then decide to tear the engine down, and from prior knowledge i knew it was the top end. Pistons fried, head/domes are fried, head gasket blown/messed up, and whats weird is that the cylinder walls are still as smooth as a babys ass, but pistons are to shit, so im not really sure what to do, i know ima get new pistons, new head and gasket, but im not sure if i need a bore job on the cylinder. So what im asking is, if you were in my situation what would you do? Thanks for any help. (dome/head) http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o301/DioDiSesso/Banshee001.jpg (piston head) http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o301/DioDiSesso/Banshee002.jpg (piston head) http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o301/DioDiSesso/Banshee003.jpg (cylinder wall) http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o301/DioDiSesso/Banshee004.jpg
  5. Understood, so basically whats the difference between titles and registration? I have a car and banshee and still dont understand it haha...
  6. A while ago, I saw a 1994 banshee that was for sale, astonishingly for $1,000... you already know what it was, straight to the bank. Unfortunately it didnt have titles(yeah yeah). So I called the dmv and had the vin ran and wasnt reported stolen, last history of it was a lean on the title in 97 for the guy not paying monthly notes and was up for repossession, so he probably sold it without papers. (the dmv told me all details) but thats besides the point. so since I dont have title, and cant get it registered I was gonna sell it probably, or buy a new frame with titles. Basically what I made this thread for, what is the exact purpose of having to have it registered? I just dont see the big deal.
  7. Arrgghh, I recently bought a 1994 banshee from a guy I knew, but the thing was he didnt have a title for it... the vehicle has been around so long, so I was thinking maybe it was lost during that time period from being through so many hands. So after about a month of contemplating, I decide to call the local dmv to git the vin number ran, so the guy runs it and tell me its def. not stolen cause it hasnt been reported as, he said the original owner had it registered it 1993(94 models must of came out in 93 or something) and that the registration and titles expired in 1997 and the guy never bothered renewing them cause he prolly lost them or something, so he prolly sold it without the titles and it was history from there... what do you guys think of this situation and what should I do? The guy at the dmv said bring the vin to the notary or something and theyll take care of me. Can I get titles or bond titles and get it registered? Bring it to a yamaha dealership? I dont know what to do. Yeah, my fault from the get go... shouldve never did it I guess. Thanks for any help.
  8. Basically, can I accidently get one that is too small or too big? And whats the difference as in performance output? Thanks for your input though.
  9. Yeah, I def. know about these engines, just not every little meticulous thing about them as this is why im here asking. Ive had a raptor for a minute, and I built go carts for a living, but thats beside the point. Im planned on doing everything besides the pistons, I already have a shop that I talked to that will do it for me, also whats the different in the sizes of the bore of the pistons? And im getting a compression tester just to check, but I just know its too low, its just too easy to turnover...
  10. I just purchased a 1994 stock banshee, only mods it has is a top end sprocket and pinion, and its never had any work done on the engine, so im planning on working on it asap... now im not to familiar with these banshee engines... ... The compression on it is so low its not even funny, like you can push the kick start with your hand low, but it starts on first kick every time and runs like a beast, but you can just tell that the compression is not there though... I mean its a 1994 never worked on. So im planned on getting: Some new pipes (undecided between fattys and t6's) V force 3 reeds Milled/shaved cool head Wiseco pistons New gasket(s) then getting it ported along down the line Now, what I know is pistons and heads come in different options(0.03/0.06/0.08, etc.), what size head and piston should I get since its a stock motor, also, should it help the compression at least a little? Im not too familiar, so bare with me, I just know your basics. Thanks.
  11. Yeah, most def... question though, when I pop the clutch at full throttle in 1st, it jumps up, bogs, then starts to get up, it just doesnt feel right, especially in a race off of the line situation... no big deal though, prolly due to alot of use on the engine or its tuned shitty... only a problem until I start modifying it which will be soon.
  12. Lol, I meant $1,000.
  13. Paid $1,000 and $100 for the guy to deliver it to me, its a 1994, only thing thats been upgraded is the sprocket and pinion, which were changed to give it more top end and some ngk spark plugs, not that it makes a huge difference. The compression is low (I can push the kick starter down with my hand, should I be concerned?) It starts in one kick and runs like a beast every time... also, one thing I wanted to ask though... it doesnt have an ignition/key, should I be suspicious that its stolen or something? The vin or nothing isnt shaved off or anything, and seeing that its a 1994, the keys could have gotten lost or something in between that 16 year time gap. Im planned on getting some pipes, v force 3 reeds, a milled head, and some new plastics. Good deal or what? http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o301/DioDiSesso/?action=view&current=IMG_20100909_175840.jpg ^^^^^pic^^^^^
