mattsellshouses Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 Hey guys, trail riding and bike stopped abruptly before a hill climb looked down and saw my chain snapped into my transfer case broke a couple pieces and cracked it. I managed to get the chain back on and got back to my truck. My question is what should i do with the transfer case? Can i just tighten my chain and go back riding or at what point is the damage going to prevent me from riding? Quote

Do you mean your ENGINE case? If you do, it depends on where and how bad the damage is. If it just broke the upper case that hangs over the sprocket it is no big deal. If it broke the cases bad enough to leak, or that the bearings, shafts, or seals are not adequately supported, then you are going to have to replace your cases or have them welded up dependig on the damage. Also, there was a reason the chain came off- either it was loose or wore out, or you have bad axle bearings or something else is wrong. Quote
Phelps Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 or you don't run a skid plate and hit something like a rock, or stump...... Quote

mattsellshouses Posted July 26, 2010 Author Report Posted July 26, 2010 it was the first time i have taken the bike out of the sand. I took the chain blocker off when i was in the sand and didn't put it back on. I must have hit a rock or something that caused the two bolts to loosen up on my chain becaus i was riding over stumps, rocks, and pretty rough terrain. Quote
AKheathen Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 check your swinger pivot bearings, too.....that'll snap a chain easy, from just turning right with enough weight. Quote
