mw7418 Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 hey all...i bought a 99 banshee, the guy said it didnt fire,so he put a stator on it...the high output one...anyway that didnt make it run,so he sold it to me cheap...got it home, and it had no compression,i rebuilt the top end,it runs now but its not right,it starts right up most of the time on the first kick, once in a while i have to kick the crap out of it...it idles fine and revs to a certain rpm and starts breaking up,i tried jetting from stock 200 to 340 it changes it a little but not much...i have the stock jets in it now, so it has 200 mains and the pilots are 27.5...i plan on running maybe 290 or 300 mains in it when i get it running right,i have a cdi box and a coil on the way,but im thinkin it has a bad stator or pick up,i know they come together but maybe the pick up is bad,i really dont know, thats why im here now...its 65.25 bore, has fmf pipes and mufflers, k&n filter,no tors,no parking brake switch Quote
tonyown Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 I don't know your elevation, temperature etc... bu 200 main looks pretty small for these mods I ran around 280-310 with fmfs and filter only at 1000 ft altitude... anyway it's probably not your problem but it may be the top end rebuild problem lol Quote
pondtunes Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 x2 on letting us know elevation, id bet your CDI is fine don't buy another one if you haven't already. As for your pickup pull the stator cover and the pickup is mounted to the stator, its the little black box beside the flywheel. There are two bumps on the flywheel, rotate it so that its in front of the pickup and set the gap between the bump and the pickup to the thickness of a matchbook cover. Clean your carbs completely if you haven't done so, the stock stator for the most part will cause you less problems in the long run given the history of the aftermarket ones. If you've got a flywheel puller the thing to do might be to go ahead and swap the stocker back in. Quote
AKheathen Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 since you just bought the thing, go ahead and throw some new plug caps on there. they are cheap, and do go out over time. x2 on trying the stock stator and definately don't go lean on the jetting. was the flywheel removed with the right puller, not a jaw puller, every time? Quote
mw7418 Posted May 6, 2010 Author Report Posted May 6, 2010 awsome thanks for the quick replys guys...im not sure if the flywheel was removed with the right puller every time i had it off once and i bought the right puller for it,i dont have the stock stator for it,i pulled the flywheel to install an adjustable stator plate and have it set at 4 deg...i was a small engine mechanic for several years, and i specialized on the 2 cycle trimmers and lawnboys, and have rebuilt alot of 2 cycle engines i have good compression on both cylinders, and no air leaks, and im pretty sure im a little lean right now,but like i said i went from stock jets al the way to 340 in the mains and it changed a lil but i cant get enough rpm to really tell whats goin on with the jetting, and im gonna run 290 or 300 mains once i get the rpms up,from what ive read on hear that should put where i need to be with my mods i have...i got my coil in today and im gonna try it and it came with new caps,so we'll see what that does...have you guys seen many bad aftermarket stators outta the box...thats what im leanin towards since ive pretty much ruled out anything else, and getting your input is a great help...so keep those opinions comin...thanks again Quote
tonyown Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 I never tryed aftermarket high out put stator but I seen in product review section that a lot of people had bad experience with them u can make a lil search in this section... Quote
pondtunes Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 yeah tons and tons and tons of bad publicity / experiences on this site with those, just do a search for "ricky stator" and you'll find plenty of horror stories. Quote
mw7418 Posted May 8, 2010 Author Report Posted May 8, 2010 got my bike fixed today...it was the coil,or the caps...my coil came with caps and new plugs, now its runnin lean on the top...im gonna rejet to 300 main tomorrow, hopefully that will take care of it...thank for the help Quote
