making own spark arrestor

so when i bought my pipes someone punched out the spark arrestors, and of course in michigan you have to have spark arrestors has anyone had any luck putting something in there, like a diy thing or should i just start looking for new pipes?

I your pipes were origionally equipped and stamped w/the US Forestry stamp, you would prolly be ok makeing something up. I tried on pipes that are not stamped and it did not fly. They are pretty hip to what pipes do and don't have spark arrestors.
