cbn70 Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 Hi, doing a rebuild on my 96 shee. Got the axle and sprocket holder and rear brake disc holder back from the zinc plater. Now that I am re assembling them, both are loose on the axle. Is there anything to I can do to tighten these up? They were ok before, but I think that was all the rust and crud. Now they are all clean. Is is the holders that are worn or the splines on the axle? By a quick visual inspection, both appear to be ok. Or is it a combination of both? Have seen many shee's and lots seem to have this problem. thanks Quote
trail rider Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 are you talking about play in the splines? if so then its normal. once you tighten the axle nuts down, there should be no play at all in em. Quote

When my Lonestar axle broke, I discovered that the splines in my brake and sprocket hubs were wore. So I figured that was the time to replace all three. They did the axle under warranty and I bought the RPM kit that flips the axle over so the sprocket hub goes on the larger splines of the axle, this makes it last much longer. Another thing I learned the hard way, is clean your shit up before sending it out to be chromed, PC'd, painted, or plated. I sent out a swingarm for chrome that still had the paint on it and could not tell it was cracked. They stripped it, saw the crack and chromed it anyway. I am mentioning this because now that you zinc plated your axle and hubs, it is going to be really hard to inspect them to see how wore the splines are. If you can see wear in the splines with the plating on there, they should definetely be replaced. Quote
