wanttodunealways Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 I took my shee out to glamis a couple of weekends back and it did something it never had done before. During the day time it ran great, but at night the throttle would rev out high and out of control like if the carb slides were sticking. I cleaned out the carbs and slides, but still did the same thing all weekend...runs great in the day, throttle sticks at night. Any clues as to what could be causing this to happen only when its cold and damp out? only mods are toomey T5's & K&N filter. btw, the bike still has the TORS on it. Thanks Quote
captainhowdie Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Running lean, or air leak. Quote
broncbob Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 I'm guessing lean, but did you check to see if the slides were sticking?? If she didn't lean out, and the slides were sticking, my guess is the cable has a lot of oil and crap in it, and when it cooled of, the oil got thick and hung up the slides. Quote
wanttodunealways Posted February 2, 2010 Author Report Posted February 2, 2010 Running lean, or air leak. If it was an air leak would it be noticeable during the day when it runs fine? Quote
captainhowdie Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Yea, you probely would if it was an airleak. I was just telling you what would make it run off on you. Im betting your just lean. Quote

I checked for slides sticking, but did not see that they were. The throttle had good snap back aswell. I need to try in start it tonight when its cold and check for sure. Also, when I pulled the carbs off I noticed a film buildup on the insides of them. Could my oil be leaving this film? Its maxima super m. I've always used this oil with no problems. Quote

Im betting your just lean. Lean on the main? I am running a 290 for the main. Is it possible the oil is not mixing well with the fuel and gumming that jet up when cold? Cold = 35 deg F Quote
FrankieSquid Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 I think it may be a jetting issue. I think during the day when it's warm weather your jetting is spot on, but when it gets cold, the colder denser air throws off your jetting. If it revs i think you might want to jet to one or two sizes bigger. You may be running lean at night giving the symptoms of a air leak but if it only does it at night when it's cold then your issue is a jetting issue. Hope this helps Quote
AKheathen Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 sounds like condensation......pull the choke when it happens and it should come back down to idle......it will load-up, so you have to keep turning the choke on-off untill it gets hot enough in and around the carbs for it to work it out. then, check the jetting and adjustments. perhaps, you should pick up some power jets for that thing..... There was for sure alot of condensatin out there that weekend. Just sitting around outside for an hour or so my back and hair would feel wet. What are "power jets"? Thanks for the choke tip. Quote
