crash&burn Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 I posted a topic awhile go on my slide valves sticking... people posted that i changed my throttle cables i did that they still were sticky... i noticed today that there was bulid up on the slide valve i could scrape the oily/fuel like substance of with my finger. i fired up the bike and spayed carb clean on the slide valves working the throttle it cleaned them but this has be a reoccuring problem..... i was thinking this was due to weather at night it has been getting down to 10 to 20 degrees...thinking this is causing the fuul/oil to gel up on them causing the sticky slide valves... should that much fuel be getting on the slide valves.... how to prevent this can i put somethin the fuel to help is it my oil i ahve no idea what causes this... i run 110 race gas at a 40:1 mix using yamaha lube with the banshee on it Quote
AKheathen Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 ummm, ditch the crap oil and get something that handles the cold weather without separating....also, that doesn't break down in higher sg fuels Quote
crash&burn Posted December 6, 2009 Author Report Posted December 6, 2009 any recommendations on a oil for the fuel and cold weather Quote
VegasJeff Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 any recommendations on a oil for the fuel and cold weather check the carb caps as well.I had that build up when I had TORS and the top cap was loose and that rubber gasket underneath was trashed. Jeff Quote
BigRed350x Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 What filters are you running? It could be dust particles mixing with your fuel and oil and making the sticky mess on your slides. For cold weather I would run Amsoil Dominator or Klotz Supertechniplate. Stay away from Castor oils in the cold, it will seperate. I'd take the carbs all the way off and go through them and clean the crap out of them and check your filters, run outerwears if you don't already, and check all your seals and gaskets on the carbs. - Jared Quote
AKheathen Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 even high end oils will have the same problem too. especially the ever-popular 927, so, just read the back of the bottle and it will have warnings about s.g. and cold issues..... Quote

AKheathen Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 and remember....while it separates, you will burn through most of the oil before you go through the first 1/2 of the tank.... Quote
