Idontknowwhy Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 Hey all, i've been trying to dial my jetting in and this is where i stand.. Stock mikuni's still with tors caps 27.5 pilots 1.5 turns out 310mains. Here's the deal, bike starts up and idles okay maybe just a tad high, but i'll take off apply 1/8th throttle, as it gains rev's it hits a flat spot where it sputters and pings before it gets on the pipe, It'll do this in any gear if i let the rpm's drop low. But once it gets on the pipe its good to go all the way out 6th it screams.. Also it's more widespread across the band when put on a load, so as in going up a small hill, It's either balls to the wall or nothing. If i pull choke out to first detent while its acting up it gets worse. Also left pipe has more oil coming out exhaust than right, I took choke plunger out seemed to be okay, except it never stays stuck out when pulled. Should i try leaning out the needle on notch?? I was thinking about float adjustments too, So please any insight on this would be highly appreciated. Going out this weekend to play with her again, I go to the local dragstrip they're closed for the season and i've got probably half mile of pavement to play on, plus there are trails for miles branching out every which way. Any help would be appreciated here's my specs on bike. '97 .020 forged wiseco's (~2 hours) Pro circuit pipes Toomey 2 into 1 filter +4 timing Not sure on elevation roughly 750'-1000' stock carbs 1.5 turns 27.5 310 Thanks in advance Quote

Real easy to do. Quote
volcrano Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 not slides-if they were backwards the top end would blow a huge ass and go nowhere.try running ur pilot screws in a turn and ride it.if it gets worse turn them 2 out.see if richer or leaner feels better.u might have to go 30 pilot or back to stock.see how it reacts. Idontknowwhy Posted November 12, 2009 Author Report Posted November 12, 2009 it's definently not the slides, they are in correctly and synched by eye, probably not 100% but pretty damn close..As for pilots I've had 25's in it, the 27.5's cleared it up a little but not by much, I ran out of time last weekend, and im going out this friday, just trying to get some insight, I will try a 30 in it and see what happens, Just to me it seems like its the needle.. Any other ideas fellas? Keep em coming! thanks! Quote

Keep em coming! thanks! try the 30.its odd tho when u richen it with the choke its worse.its a fine line dude.but if you were 1.5 out with 27.5,maybe you can do a 2-2.5 with 30's.give you a little more room to play.good luck!!! AKheathen Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 start by turning the airscrew in 1/4 turn @ a timeand try it out. is it warmmed up when you're tuning? play with the needles for 1/4+ and pretty close to 1/8 throttle Quote

That's just completely not true regarding the slides. Put them in backwards and see for yourself. Quote
J-Madd Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Raise the clip on the needle (lowering the needle) 1 groove and see how if that helps. Quote
Idontknowwhy Posted November 12, 2009 Author Report Posted November 12, 2009 Lowering the needle leans it out correct? Quote
volcrano Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 That's just completely not true regarding the slides. Put them in backwards and see for yourself. thats exactly where i got it from.bike would have no balls at all and take a downhill to hit powerband.how does it not make sense?when u hold the throttle all the way open with slides backwards-look at em through airbox.1/4 inch of slide hangs in the carb body!!so-yes ive had them backward, and yes-it runs like shit as i said.switched them around and needed a seatbelt to stay on it. Idontknowwhy Posted November 12, 2009 Author Report Posted November 12, 2009 Hmm as i just looked through my box of jets, i realized in there lays the 2 washers that go with the mains..Oops! Can't see that causing the problem im having though..Any thoughts? Quote
AKheathen Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 yah, those washers can cause a huge problem.....they hold the emultion tube in place, which mixes air with the fuel from the main jet Quote

Maybe the jetting plays a role in how it acts with the slides in backwards as well. When mine were in wrong it would sputter UNTIL it got into the powerband, then run pretty good, just very rich. Idontknowwhy Posted November 15, 2009 Author Report Posted November 15, 2009 Just to update incase anyone happens to make the same mistake.. The washers were the problem, i pulled the carbs put the washers on the mains and off it went.. All was well til 2 miles out in the woods it up and quit..electrical gremlins..but that's another story.. Quote
