theoriginal87 Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 ok so i finally solved my problem with it flooding itslef to death and got it to run better.. but i have one last questionnn??? ok so im doing the jetting now and i think im getting tuned in to the right one.. so right now i have 300's and i think it still might be alittle rich.. so tell me what u think?? starts fine first kick runs fairly well still feels just alittle bit off tho.... so when i go seems alittle sputtery when i really get on it and doesnt like to have the choke on so i know its not lean at all... but seems to bog and wont go into power band or takes a good stretch to get it to go espeshally in higher gears but still will hit it eventually... im at 5000 ft absl and im running pro curcuit pipes n silencers, k&n filter, modified air box still has lid tho, and supposedly port n polish.... not to sure on what it is exactly but thats what the guy said wen i picked it up :/ well so my question is do u think im still alittle rich???? crustydemon Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Take the lid off your box and see if that helps. It may be just what it needs. Then leave it off. Quote
Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 What do your plugs look like??? That will be the best indicator of a rich or lean state. Quote
theoriginal87 Posted October 17, 2009 Author Report Posted October 17, 2009 the carbs are the best state they could be in right now... the only thing left is the jetting... but the plugs are a darker chocolate brown but still alitttle wet.... so im betting its rich im gonna bump it down to 290's tomorow and see how it goes.. Quote
fastbanshee8 Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 I'd say drop down to 280's. One jet size won't affect it much, when you're that rich. Quote
mercury65 Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 i ran 270 in my 04 with toomys at 5000ft and that was just a tad fat on warmer days 85ish as it sould be. if its cooler then you normaly ride get it dead on, if its warmer you want to be a tad fat then recheck the plugs when its cooler. Quote
mercury65 Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 one more thing if you ride both winter and sumer u need to rejet for the winter even if they are a tad fat in the summer its easy to burn them up when its cold out, or if you take the bike down to sea level. Quote
theoriginal87 Posted October 17, 2009 Author Report Posted October 17, 2009 AAAAAHHH ok so heres the deal now..... after the new carbs the bike would always start up and wouldnt do the stupid sh!t where it just floods itself to death everytime you let it sit after riding it... and today after i poped in my 290 mains the stupid thing woldnt even start!!! so after sevral minutes of screaming and cursing and the tjrowing of some tools i drained the carbs and turned off the gas and still wont start... so then i resort to sweet talking it to start... and then she comes to life i take her out for a spin and she fukin rips! the only thing is at the very top of sixth it starts to sputter and pop abit... any idea whats causing this????? so after all of this i kill it and sure enough back to square one,,,.... it wont start again!!!!!!!! so i have to kill the gas and sit... runs great just KEEPS FLOODINNG AGGRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!! soo please if anybody has annnnyyy ideas please let me know... i just want to go ride Quote
theoriginal87 Posted October 17, 2009 Author Report Posted October 17, 2009 forgot this.... but the plugs now a darker choclate brown but still just alittle bit wet wen u pull them although that was with the 300's.. havnt checked after the new jetting Quote
SAVAGE420 Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 Well first off settle down . Second, do you have a clymers? If not, get one on ebay for $30. Third, your floats are too low, move them up too with in 20-22mm and they wont leak but still give plenty of fuel. Fourth, your lean on your mains if its sputtering and popping up on a full long pull. Do a PROPER plug chop, don't miss a step and do it too the "T" then jet according to what your plugs after doing the proper plug chop tell you. Plug chop>>> http://www.dfn.com/benkaren/plugchop.html EVERYTHING you need to know about the carbs you have>>>> http://www.dfn.com/benkaren/jetfaq.html Q#26: You need to read THROUGHLY!!! Everything i said above is covered in the clymers or the second link with what you need to do. Quote
sinisterboo Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 I would wait til it runs right to claim victory. Just a tip. Quote
theoriginal87 Posted October 17, 2009 Author Report Posted October 17, 2009 (edited) well first off everytime it seems i fix something another problem pops up... but yes i do have a clymers manual (its a pdf on the computer but still all the same) but ok heres the thing with the 300's on there i can tell its to rich simply by the fact that the plugs are all wet when i pull them and it bogs abit but when i put in the 290's ran great but it started flooding and wouldnt start worth a damn after it had been ridden... or could i be mistaken that your plugs are supposed to be alittle wet??? but anyways i guess ill try the float levels but the thing is that the carbs dont leak at all and are in perfect condition..... but im still all unsure.... but srry for all the questions im just trying to educate myself alittle bit and thanks for all the advice guys Edited October 17, 2009 by theoriginal87 Quote
SandRageShee Posted October 18, 2009 Report Posted October 18, 2009 Have you checked the o rings on the choke plunger? And do as savage said an set the float height. Quote
theoriginal87 Posted October 19, 2009 Author Report Posted October 19, 2009 thanks guys for all advice i took it for a quick spin yesterday and seemed alittle poppy when i reved it after start up but after it warmed up abit sounded fine but i think its still alittle lean.... not knowing wat porting job was done on it is really killing me on tuning it... so i think im gonna bump it up to the 300's again and check the float lvl's and do a run and if it seems fine ill go ahead and start doing plug chops..
