blowit Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 I would not recommend piston modding for beginners. This is typically only done by pros for drag bikes due to the piston life reduction. I would look for other ways to get more power. I have done ever piston mod there is and it can certainly help but knowing what you are doing is paramount. Guessing will likely end up in a broke piston, broke cylinder, etc. It gets expensive... B Quote
brave&crazy racing Posted October 8, 2009 Author Report Posted October 8, 2009 well this is a drag bike. i know the piston that were in my 16mill dm were modd from talking to tim. the ones that came out of our tripel were window. (stocker cast) the wisco that went back in werent. the pistons dan from a&s sent me back for my 4 mill were untuched. the wsm that came out of it were window and had a shorter skirt.. i know it helps i know how to do it. just would like to see what people are doing what works and what dont.. shanYE west Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 the WSM pistons come with larger windows. Quote

Without having the complete port map, port durations, CR, piston type, etc, it would be a guess at best. Just chopping off the bottom of the piston will not always equate to more power. I am still unsure what engine we are talking about. Every engine combination will have different needs so there is no blanket statement that applies to all motors. B Quote
brave&crazy racing Posted October 8, 2009 Author Report Posted October 8, 2009 this would be on my stock stroke 65 bore stock cyl set up. the ex is 193. i will haft to look and see what the rest of the # are.. i have ran the wan and liked them in my stcok cyl big bore motor... i was just realy more less wanting to know what some people are doing to the pistons to help out in the end.. not trying to say i want to see it so i can go cut up a set.. Certainly have more power left in the cylinders before you need to resort to piston mods. Just no sense in pulling ounces of power from piston mods when other aspects could be improved. I can tell you that exhaust is mild for drags... B Quote
AKheathen Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 you know, i started a thread on this recently and no replies.....still wondering My link Quote
blowit Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 you know, i started a thread on this recently and no replies.....still wondering My link Not sure what was wrong with the pistons in your linky, or the price. All seems reasonable to me. Those are forged pistons. WSM makes good pistons. Wiseco is not the only game, ever. They seem to be for Banshee people but everything else, they are middle of the road.. B yah, i know. i'm just dead set on coated pistons, and need the lr pistons for my 4mill. i was just wondering if the design on them would work good for topend, and not as good in my low-mid build, or help @ all rpm's. i was going to try namura coated pistons, but it looked more likea little teflon inserted in the skirt, and not much of it, although that was the same material i'm partial to. other option is to send 795's to swaintech..... thanx for responding. The link you posted was for LR pistons.... Grab them up. Seems like a no brainer. Don;t expect too much life out of them though.. B Quote
dajogejr Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I've yet to see a bonafide improvement at the track with windowed pistons. 1-3 HP on a dyno is nothing....especially compared to the life you just shaved off the motor. I don't know who ported your motor...but the top guys out there in the drag race world are the top for a reason. Maybe hit one of them up.... Quote
brave&crazy racing Posted October 10, 2009 Author Report Posted October 10, 2009 my drag motor have been done by the best of the best titan racing and a&s racing. dam did both my 4 mills and my 10mill cubs. tim from titan did my dm and is now building me a new motor.. i have a flotek 350 dune motor too. dajogejr Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 No offense, don't take this wrong...but I agree, Dan and Tim are some of the best out there. That being said...why are you asking on this site when you could easily call one or both of them and ask them what they think. It's their motor(s)...let them give you the final say... What you're doing is asking a bunch of college guys, myself included...how to run a professional sport... Ask the pros! Quote
