Just turned my bike from stock into (hopefully) a monster! I'm starting with a stock carb, mains, pilots, needle etc..

Recently Installed:

-Toomey T6's

-Pod Filters

-Advanced timing plate +4

I live in Michigan.. not sure where we are compared to sea-level.. I was hoping to find a fellow Michigan HQ-er that has similar mods. All help appreciated.

i was told by a local guy to run a #30 pilot jet, air screw 1.5 out #280 main jet, and 3rd clip(stock needle clip position)

You wont need a 30 pilot, youre not even ported. Run the 27.5 pilot, start richer like 330 or 320 and work down, Dont start too lean because it can cause damage.

thanks again. you're right about starting rich and working down. but whats with the pilot?? the one local that does dyno tuning says to run 30's all day due to the fact i have pods. then vitos tells me to run a 30-35 and if i go duning to MAYBE jump the piliot up a notch all the way to a 40... he said its not mandatory to bump the pilot but i should most definitely jump up on my main. vitos seems to think ill be around a 290 and if i go duning to bump to a 310 or 320. i think ill just buy a set of jets. and try my luck. like the forum says with jetting its always good to be a little rich. and as far as the needle clip? still #2 or keep it at 3?

There is no way you'd need a 30 pilot or bigger with that setup. I'd start with 320 or 310 mains, 27.5 pilot, middle clip on needle, and 1.5 to 2 turns out on the pilot air screws. I'm guessing you'll end up with 300 mains if its 70* or warmer outside, but keep an eye on your plugs.

we are at about 900 - 1200 ft above sea level give or take...depending where you are at.

Just look through the tons of pages in this thread as alot of people tell what there mods, alt, temp and what there jetting is. I bet 100% for sure a few guys have the EXACT same set up as you. Have a look see.

IMO this should get stickied!

I will bump it again anyways.

thanks all. Savage, i agree that one should by stickied..

So i started with a 300 main and a 27.5 pilot needle in the stock position and the screw was in the stock position as well.. i had to snap the throttle to get her to turn over.. is this because i didn't adjust the screw?! didn't think about that till later will be back at it tonight and ill at least check where that screw is..

Like everyone told you, you MAY end up at a 300 main, but start richer and double check!! Make sure air screw it 1-2 turns out, start at 2 turns out and go a 1/4 turn at a time in and see how it reacts.

I understand i may need to start richer.. but wont the bike still turn over at least attempt to idle??

heres what happened.

it took a while to kick over, finally after snapping the throttle she fired up.. shee stayed idling for a while.. sounded great! so i shut it down just to be sure i wouldn't hurt anything in case the jetting was off. and It was late so i couldn't do a plug chop. So being excited about my new sick sounding banshee, i wanted to fire it back up to take a video.. lol.. so then the same thing happened. had to kick it a few times.. snap the throttle it would turn over for a Milli-second but then shut off right away...

tell me if im wrong but even if i was a little on the lean or rich side of things wouldn't the bike still run? and my pilot screws.. even though i didn't adjust them.. wouldn't the bike still fire up?

i guess im explaining all this cause maybe there's a known problem.. for example.. clogged pilot, wayy too lean, or wayy too rich.

Thanks again.

You did put the choke tube back between the carbs right? I think you are in the ball park on jetting on the bottom. Maybe a bit lean on top. Im at sea level, and i run 330-340 mains, 27.5 pilots, needle 1 notch lean of center, air screw 1.25 turns out with T5s. I believe T6s will jet out pretty similar
