dco3100 Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 Never done it before, how to setup my own? Quote
swrbansheeboy Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 you dont realy set up your own, you need to buy a tester. once you get a compression tester you need to pull your plugs/ thread the tester into one of the plug holes/ hold the throttle wide open then kick the engine over untill the guage tops out. once your done with the first cylinder remove the tester and install it into the opposite cylinder and repeat. dco3100 Posted September 12, 2009 Author Report Posted September 12, 2009 i don't believe you lol you dont realy set up your own, you need to buy a tester. once you get a compression tester you need to pull your plugs/ thread the tester into one of the plug holes/ hold the throttle wide open then kick the engine over untill the guage tops out. once your done with the first cylinder remove the tester and install it into the opposite cylinder and repeat. Ok, i thought there was something that needed to be done to make the threads line up on the tester and the head. So where would I get one, Lowe's, O'reilly...? Quote
Drewski Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 you can get one at most automotive parts store or tool store Quote
dajogejr Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 Get a quality tester. 20 dollar auto store testers are junk, period. Craftsman makes a nice small engine/motorcycle kit for around 60 I believe. You need to make sure the tester threads are the same size and depth as your spark plugs....you need to displace as much volume in your cylinder as your spark plug does for an accurate reading. Pull both plugs out, turn the ignition and fuel off...and test each cylinder. Hold the throttle wide open while kicking, and keep kicking until the gauge no longer moves. Honestly, it can take 20 to 30 kicks per cylinder to get the reading. This is a decent kit: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00947089000P?keyword=compression+tester Quote
