shogs Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 I recently installed a +4 timing plate and my current mods are vf3 reeds, 22cc domes, hjr aggressive trail port, 2 into 1 35mm carb, and paul turner mids. I'm just above sea level. My dad bought the low grade gas at the gas station by accident and my bike seems to run hot. If I run high octane all the time will this be enough? My headers are even bluing a little bit. They looked brand new when I bought them so its easy to tell. Also my low end jetting seems pretty spot on but when I hit the powerband i'd say my peak power is 3/4 throttle and anything more than that doesn't make it pull harder.(doesn't bog like its rich or seem like its lean). Will I have to do a compression test for you guys to know for sure or are my mods listed enough? Also if I get a billet impeller will it help it a lot or could I still need higher octane? Let me know if you need any other info but I think my mods and elevation should be enough. Let me know what you think. Thanks Quote
AKheathen Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 you should just run premium. defiately sounds like the main is off. change the fuel and do a plug chop Quote
2004LEBanshee Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 You should always run at least 93 like said. Running hot is a sign of lean and could be a sign of too much timing. You need to test your compression. You have too many variables for someone to guess. Things that can effect your octain requirements are. Elavation, porting, head mod, gaskets, timing, pistons , probably others but pipes and carbs do not. So since you have most of those you really need to test it to know for sure. Quote
shogs Posted July 3, 2009 Author Report Posted July 3, 2009 I might take my quad to my local shop and have them test it real quick. Its only a few minutes down the street and will be cheaper than buying one. What is a safe compression for 93 octane? I'm going to also buy some jets should I go in sizes of 1 or 2 if I wanna fine tune the main. The pilot and needle are seem to be pretty spot on. Quote
AKheathen Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 your symptoms say 1or 2 sizes lean, but that's with the low octane fuel. go up 2, and drop one if it sputters at wot. you shoudn't be running cheap gas, but you don't need, or even bnifit from anything over 93 octane. you might actually loose some running race fuel with 22's. 155psi and +4 timing is about right, but you may only get 135-145, which is fine, but may be the limit for low oct. or over.
