old roost Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 As i stated in one of my last posts, i am starting the tear down to rebuild the motor, i want to stay as close to stock mechanicaly as possible, now when i had the head off to free up the pistons i did not see any visible damage to the walls from what i could see, with out removing the jugs. And it actually sputtered to life for a few seconds this weekend( I am sure carbs need rebuild) Now should i do a leak down test / compression test to see if i will need to bore or if i could just get away with a hone and get a 64mm complete top end rebuild kit? Yes i am planning to inspect the crank and bearings and replace all gaskets,But i dont want to spend extra money on boring and oversized top end if i dont need to. Quote
banshee_terror_ Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 if its not scratched up hone it and new piston rings. and check the rest of the motor out and new gaskets and your good to go. and i wouldnt even bother the comp or leak test just get new stuff Quote
