oneslowshee Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 has anyone had this problem? i have the same pipes, and i am worried about that. i cannot think of anything to stop the vibration i was thinking maybe putting a washer and a spring on the bolt but i cannot imagine that working very well. and a rubber gasket i dont think would work i am not sure.. maybe we can just not run anything and hold them as we drag race them lol Quote
joee20002 Posted June 19, 2009 Author Report Posted June 19, 2009 anyone els have any info..... Quote
rubberneck Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 im pretty sure there was some posts a while back about this, and i think everybody was recomending rubber mounts. I am planning on using a piece of an old slick i have and cutting a strip out of it. its pretty rigid for support but will still give and lessen the vibrations. i have used this same set up on a sand rail exhaust that kept breaking Quote
Darthwall Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 (edited) what I did for my oof's was basicly go to lowes or home depot and get a bunch of thick rubber bushings/gromets and everywhere the brackets touch the frame or pegs put one or more on each side in between everything to cut down the vibes I only had my oof's for a couple of months but never cracked a weld or broke anything they just vibrated bolts out of the quad all over lol Edited June 20, 2009 by Darthwall Quote
sheefreak Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 Go to any auto parts store and look for stoppers for automotive shocks. They all sell them, they are just about the right size. I have seen several people use the stock mount and drill two holes and put bolts through it to make sure it does not separate. This is the best pic I have of mine. You can see the rubber mount between the bracket and pipe mount. Quote
Darthwall Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 ya thats what im talking about right there except I used bushings on the outsides of the bolt too just as a little insurance it will let it move some but its not going to go anywhere Quote
joee20002 Posted June 20, 2009 Author Report Posted June 20, 2009 Was it the lower pipe? ya the lower pipe.......... thanks guys i will try some shock stops. Quote
dajogejr Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 C'mon Joe...you got to come to the pros...LOL. You need a rubber isolator from Grainger. I had my upper pipe seam split twice, and talked to Shearer in detail about these. They need to be rubber mounted to the peg, but they should be solid mounted to each other. I used a stock pipe hanger (drilled through the middle and put a bolt through in case the rubber shears) and an isolator from Grainger. You don't want it to flap around like a bird wing, but it needs to have some give. I also put a bolt through the top cylinder hold down and use two springs to hold it to the cylinder. Seems to be working good so far! Quote
shanYE west Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 Thats pretty much the reason I dont like the 2 out ea. side pipes... too much weight on th lower pipe mount when your banging through ruts and whoops. I used one out ea and mounted it direct to the peg and ran it all season in the dunes with no problems. But to answer the question.. I think we all use the rubber isolators from grainger.. I even got my tank on rubber isolators. Quote
joee20002 Posted June 20, 2009 Author Report Posted June 20, 2009 ya i run the isolators from grainger on my tank and front plastics... i will get some more for my pipe.. thanks guys... Quote
shanYE west Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 ya i run the isolators from grainger on my tank and front plastics... i will get some more for my pipe.. thanks guys... Try to find some with higher shear strength. Quote
joee20002 Posted June 21, 2009 Author Report Posted June 21, 2009 Try to find some with higher shear strength. im kinda liking the stock pipe hangers that dave is running....... Quote
