TeamRealtreeHD Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 I have been skeptical for a long time about running it... I have a few buddies running it for several years with no problems. I have access to it for around $3.40 a gallon. It is hovering around 100 octane I suppose, maybe more. I called Kevin at HJR since he built my motor. He says it would be fine to run in the cub with 23cc domes and +4 timing. He ran it in his bikes before. The gas I have been getting was Sunoco Maximal, 116. Mixed it with 93 pump. But that is just expensive, so might be switching to it after I run out of the 10 gallon I got here... Anyone running it? Quote

Lol yeah they use it in planes, which run low RPM's and very high altitude where the air quality is way different. I have used it in the past with no bad results. GrMeyer Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 been running full on avgas sense last dune season and getting ready to tear down my 660 raptor motor because I broke a oil jug bolt off. Just rebuilt my banshee from a pod coming off in the sand. The motor was clean... My next door neighbor has been buying avgas for 5 years and running it in his rail and quads. Still no prob...he buys the gas that cant be sold to planes so he gets it in a 55gal drum. But I was told that you cant mix avgas with reg gas for some reason. but both of my bikes need the 100oct so I dont have to mix.. at around $4 gal of avgas vs $8 of 100oct pump gas...Ill stay with avgas Quote

Although we ripped a buddy's bike down, who ran straight av gas for 2-3 years on the same build, and his domes were pretty thick with carbon deposits, etc. He mixes his rich with klotz though, 32:1 and sometimes even more like 25:1. Don't know why... But his bike was piped, 18cc domes, cool head, stock carbs, non-ported. Basic mods. Don't know his compression, I would guess in the 150-160 range if I was to estimate when that motor was fresh... But Kevin said it wouldn't hurt, he ran it before. I just don't know if I want to chance it. I wish I could run it, sure beats the $8.90 a gallon for the race fuel here (Sunoco CAM 2 Maximal 116). I am currently mixing that with pump 93 to get around 104-105, but this motor will run on 100 just fine. Just skeptical about it... mostly because I see alot of slightly modded banshees running fine on it, but not much from the guys running heavily modded bikes like mine. Quote
