shanYE west Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 VP sells 2 differnt types.. but for most part.. I think methonal is methonal.. I dont even know who makes mine.. its in a blue plastic barrel and it just says "METHONAL" on the drum. Quote
dajogejr Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Technically Shayne, VP sells 3 different types... M1, M3 and M5. http://vpracingfuels.com/fuels_spec.asp  99. anything % pure is just fine. I've ran M1 in the past. I have a Sunoco 55 gallon drum in my garage now. The key thing in Methanol is keep it stored at a normal temp, off the ground...AND SEALED. It will suck moisture out of the air, and that's why folks purge. That moisture on your motor's internal will cause rust, corrosion, etc. I think the M5 has nitropropane and top end lube, it's MOSTLY for the 4 stroke guys, and VERY hard to tune on a 2 stroke. Quote

I bet is actually says "Methanol" on there, but what do I know.................... Quote
J-Madd Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Please explain storing the drum off of the ground. Is that only for plastic? I have a metal drum that has been on concrete for over a year and I still run it. Not milky, no indication of water. Am I losing hp by doing this? Quote
dajogejr Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 The theory is temperature. Metal, as it gets cold can produce condensation. Condensation is essentially water... However, since you more than likely don't have the large changes in temps like us Yankees do...probably not as much of a concern for you.... Quote
J-Madd Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 It stays fairly stable in my (completely, constantly wrecked and unorganized) shop. I keep the temp between 45 and 60 in the winter, and whatever in the the summer. No a/c. Just noticed the drum in my sig pic is on a dolly...but the last drum I emptied was on the concrete. Quote
shanYE west Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 I bet is actually says "Methanol" on there, but what do I know.................... yeah.. what do you know.. lol Quote
FireHead Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 yeah.. what do you know.. lol I don't know anything......... Just ask me. Quote
shanYE west Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 I don't know anything......... Just ask me. What do you know about pirate hookers? Quote
dajogejr Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 What do you know about pirate hookers? He is the IMdb and wikipedia of pirate hookers. Quote
flyhighprerunner Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 not to get off topic but what does the 5 stand for in the m5 methanol? I have always heard to store drums on boards off the ground...And just like dave said (i think) its because the coldness of the concrete pulls moisture outta the air. Quote
FireHead Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 He is the IMdb and wikipedia of pirate hookers. ..............all this because Bansh-eman called me a prirate hooker once. I suppose it could be worse. Quote
4stroker Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 a drag race (pro stock) engine builder here in aus says he can usually get up to 5% more power out of his engines with oxygenated race fuel compared to methanol. the kx500 guru over at kxriders.com has told me the same thing with his big power kx5s. anyone on here tried it in there banshee? im gonna try it in my 4mm RZ, i have some 200psi domes for it and a programmable ignition, should be fun. it costs alot more per liter, but you dont use as much of it, and you dont have to purge. mark.
