shogs Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 Got everything together today. Was my first top end rebuild on anything and I did it all by myself. I'm pleased with the outcome except for one tiny problem. Now I don't have any spark. I've only done 2 things I think could have caused the problem. I tried taking the flywheel off the other day and I couldn't. A lot of dust and dirt shook around when I was using my impact wrench. My dad tried to help me by using a screwdriver as leverage when i had the impact and I think that may have caused a problem. Another idea is I cut a wire I shouldn't have. I know this might be stupid for me thinking this does anything but heres a picture of what I cut and where I cut it from. I'll post a pic of what the cylinders look like installed as well. Please no bashing for the screwdriver idea or my lack of skill with wiring. Sorry to post in this and my old thread but I wanted to try to get my bike running ASAP Quote
AKheathen Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 did you unplug the tors box next to the coil after you cut out the carb wires? i would buy the flywheel puller, lock it in 6th, hold the brake and break the nut loose to clean and inspect the stator and flywheel for damage Quote
Darthwall Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 X2 if you damaged the stator with the screwdriver that is prolly the problem Quote
sheerider1026 Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 X2 if you damaged the stator with the screwdriver that is prolly the problem x2 ^^ thats exactly what i was thinking.. i would get a flywheel puller and check the stator to see if it got damaged.. good luck . Quote
shogs Posted April 12, 2009 Author Report Posted April 12, 2009 One of the solders to a wire on the stator was chipped so I soldered it back to where it was. I get power to part of my bike when I kick it over but still no spark. I checked some wires with my power tester (or whatever the f its called) and some worked but like i said no spark. The previous owner also cut and taped a lot of wires and it looks like I might have to clean it up sooner than I had wanted . Any advice on how to see if my stator is whats bad or if I have a loose connection somewhere. It sat for two months max and all i did was a top-end and cut the wire in the previous picture. Thanks Quote
twizted269 Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 first thing anyone will suggest is get a clymers manual for the bike. it will tell you exactly how to test it and where. also what wires are for what and so on. you may be able to find the info on here but the book is the way to go. I have one. Good advice. Thanks Does anyone have any advice referring to actual instances they had similar to mine? Quote
zachass9 Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 Did you remove any other electronics, like maybe the key? If so close that circuit!! Check all grounds (coil and cdi bold ground). Refer to manual and chase wires!! Good luck!! Quote

I'll let you guys know when I find out what happened. Quote
AKheathen Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 I have one. Good advice. Thanks Does anyone have any advice referring to actual instances they had similar to mine? we have seen instances of 3 of the same scenarios. 1- damaged stator removig flywheel 2- stator was close to going out at time of rebuild and simply moving the wires/parts pushed it over the edge 3- modifying the wiring resulted in issues directly related and not. where are you getting power? @ the red/white and green/white, or yellow and black? start by ohming @ the cdi plug- red to green & red/wht to grn/wht- ~100 & about 17 ohms black wire should get full continuity ONLY with red/black and frame/engine black/white should read nothing Quote
