Quadatic20 Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 (edited) 2000 Shee with a fresh top end...28mm Mikuni carbs no tors...    I did a top end over the winter...The left side fires at the plug but, I just pulled the head off again and there is no burn marks like the right side... It barely has anything coming out of the silencer...the pipe never gets hot??? Swapped wires to plugs - no coil issue??? Took carbs apart again and measured the floats (21mm from carb base at gasket line (gasket off) and checked the needle,,,no problems found??? The plug and reeds (VForce - brand new pedals) are saturated with fuel....it is just not firing in the cylinder??? ANY AND ALL ADVICE APPRECIATED,,,,I AM READY TO RIDE AND DO NOT WANT TO MISS ANY TRIPS... :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: Edited April 10, 2009 by Quadatic20 Quote
Quadatic20 Posted April 10, 2009 Author Report Posted April 10, 2009 Calling for some advice from all the Banshee mechanics out there??? Quote
Quadatic20 Posted April 10, 2009 Author Report Posted April 10, 2009 Last thing to check is compression ,,, doing that this weekend... Does anyone know what and if there is a firing order??? Going to check load on coil too...to see if it may be worn out. Quote
Quadatic20 Posted April 10, 2009 Author Report Posted April 10, 2009 Bump Looks like a few Banshees out there are experiencing the same symptoms??? Advice and assistance needed,,,,I really do not want to miss another ride. Quote
zachass9 Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 I would check every wire on the bike starting at the back!! Look for burnt or rubbed wires!! That is what I did this evening with mine, and things cleaned up a lil bit!! Best of luck!! Keep me posted! Quote

That is what I did this evening with mine, and things cleaned up a lil bit!! Best of luck!! Keep me posted! Thanks - I will check everything this weekend...going to test load on the coil. Not sure if there is a firing order and the coil is to weak for side 2. Also - I have a bit of a stupid question, should the slides in the carbs be set at the same level...Common sense says yes but you never know. Thanks again... Keep me posted if you figure it out. zachass9 Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 If I remember correctly, both plugs fire at the same time!! I am pretty sure that is why you can switch plugs wires from side to side!! Quote
Quadatic20 Posted April 10, 2009 Author Report Posted April 10, 2009 If I remember correctly, both plugs fire at the same time!! I am pretty sure that is why you can switch plugs wires from side to side!! The electrical possibilty throws me because I switched plug wires and it was the same. What type of wiring would be to the carbs seperately? It is like the load is to heavy and there is no spark in the cylinder like when it is out. Got a buddy that has a plug extension to test it... Going to check stator and wiring to verify all is good too. More to follow.....???????? Quote
Handyman Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 Do a search on this using my screen name....I had the same issue but on the right side.....It came to be my needle was messed up at the tip Quote
sheefreak Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 I have seen bad air leaks cause this as well. I would not concentrate on the wiring.....Yet. Since you switched them. If you have the means to do a leak down test, do it. If not, you may want to look at Docjwatson's Thread on making a tester setup. Double check your airscrews and all the jets, needles, slides, etc. and make sure they are all the same and make sure, again, your pilot jet on that side is not clogged. I have put squeaky clean carbs together to find I had debris in the can of fuel I purchased and clogged up the pilot immediately. Just pay attention to the what is in the bowl, etc. while you are looking everything over. Make sure the slides are in sync. Quote

Thanks - for the tips ---- i will continue to troubleshoot and when I find it I will document it for ALL.... I just took them all apart to set the float heights and make sure the float needle was good. I even changed the needle and cylinder it fits into and no difference. Checked the main jets but NOT the pilots...back to the carbs for now. Thanks..... Quote
sheefreak Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 If I was having the problem you are, the first thing I would check in the carb would be the pilots... Quote
