So what do you guys like better?

 

PVL, Lighter flywheel, Separate systems for each cyl makes finding problems easy can get ANY advancement you could possibly want. Tons of spark (and shocked the shit outa me when i touched it. Downfall is must run 2 deadman switches, not capable of lights.

 

DYNA, You can change the advancment of spark as rpms change, to work perfectly with porting. Plug in and go. Other riders get scared when you start fliping switches. Still able to run lights. Down fall, Still running heavy flywheel, and large wire harness. Programing with the laptop can get tricky to find the right combo.

 

 

Kinda looking for other oppinions from other riders that have ran both systems. I like things about both and am currently running a PVL. Right now im very happy with it. Not that i havent been satisfied with the dyna.

well what kind of riding do you do? the PVL is a great racing setup it revs really fast and there is lots of spark but as you know you cant run lights. the dyna you can run lights on and you can adjust rev limeters and all that other fun stuff run some tests see which one is better for what you are doing if you have the ability to tune on a dyno that will show you the better of the two

I assume you ride TT, if that's a picture of you hanging it out sideways in your avatar.

 

If you're happy with the PVL, leave it as is.

 

A PVL can be adjusted pretty easily track side with a dial caliper and basic tools.

 

The Dyna has 4 curves you can program in, but any more and it's get the laptop out and try to guesstimate.

 

Sure it has 3 pre programmed curves, but my belief is unless you're gonna take the time to actually dyno the Dyna and get the laptop/cable to program it, I personally don't think it's worth it.

 

I had one....it worked, but I went back to OEM. ( I Know...I'm a drag racer, and I could've used a NOS curve, a race fuel curve, etc., rev limiter, etc.) I never got around to the dyno and OEM works fine for me.

 

Have you ever compared lap times and consistency with a stock setup vs. a PVL?

I dont have any pvl experience, unfortunately all my experience is with the motoplat setup. I even know where there is one sitting right now. That ignition is scary.

 

I have a dyna now, and I cant stand riding my bike without it. I use curve 3, and it does make a difference that you can feel. I also run a stock stator and plate with my +4 timing programmed into the cdi.

Well guys i wasnt asking for help, Just trying to get a pro/con thing for people that might be looking into upgradeing there ignition system. Im probably going to run the pvl for a while then i might try a MSD, or something like that.

PVL - I'd say if you are a bigger guy and are used to the stock setup (heavy flywheel) then the PVL can be hard to get used to with launching and if you have a tendency to short-shift. It is not forgiving at all when it comes to short shifts since you don't have the weight of the flywheel to help out. The PVL definitely provides a much hotter spark and helps provide a more efficient burn.

 

I've got a dyna on my twister bike and firehead put a custom curve in it, which is pretty handy. I prefer the stock CDI and a timing plate myself, but the dyna seems to do pretty good on my drag bike.
