So, while rewiring this absolute mess on my banshee, i came across this weird setup. the wire that ran from the cdi to the coil and stator, was spliced, split, and ran to where the voltage regulator bolted on and grounded there. is this wire even supposed to be grounded?

I had the same problem. All the wires were spliced and taped with scotch tape(the clear kind lke in school). It was a mess so i ripped all my wires out and now i have just the ones i need. No lights no extra crap looks really clean. as for your question i have no idea sorry haha.

You talking about that silver box, that's your voltage reg that should be grounded.

yeah, i know, im just asking why there is a ground spliced out of the cdi to stator wire, the diagram doesnt even show it.

Sounds like someone that had the bike before you removed some stuff and just cut the wires and taped it which made it look all crappy. Best thing to do is clean everything up and crimp the wires you need and heat shrink the crimps and go back with fresh elec. tape. make sure the volt reg has a nice place to ground to as in bare metal make sure the powder coat is grinded down.
