jaydun323 Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Cant get me shee to start, got plenty of spark, gapped right, good compression, just wont start. fmf gold series pipes, power core 2 tips, KnN pods,190 mains, 25 pilots, pretty much stock jetting, i know there a little low for my mods. now i have been riding my shee since i bought it a couple of months ago with no problems what so ever. It all started last saturday when i went riding all day, no problems, brought it home and washed it up. i covered my filters with plastic bags and washed her. let her air dry and towel dried the plastics, went to start her and could not get her going, so i thought i might have got a little water in the carbs, so i pulled them and cleaned them up, didnt see any evidence of water, and she still wont start!!! put new plugs in it, check the choke line, bowls are on right side and stil nothing. so this morning i went on a mission to fix her, i had to push start her with my old lady and she finally started but started back firing like crazy. i rode her around a while and got her warmed up, and after that she started first kick but still back firing. i gave up for a couple hours to think and search the forums, the i got back to it. randomly i switched the 2 throttle cable lines, to where the bevell on the bottum of the slide faces the reeds and not the filters, and she started right up cold but she runs like shit and wont idle, im starting to get pissed, what the hell could it be. please help Thanks Justin P.S. sorry for rambling on an on Quote
sheefreak Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 You are way lean on your jetting bro. How do you know your compression is good? You need to turn the slides back around. What are your airscrews at? You need your jetting to look more like this.... 300 main(maybe fatter) 27.5 pilot airscrew 1.5 turns out lower the needle one notch to richen up the needle a hair. You are lucky it has run as long as it has.... Quote
jaydun323 Posted March 13, 2009 Author Report Posted March 13, 2009 so get this i walked outside right after i started this thread and i noticed i left the gas on for the last 2 hours, so i kicked it one time and it started right up and runs like a champ. WTF??? oh and i know the jets are way to lean thats why i was running 24:1 in the gas. Quote
sheefreak Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Which will make it leaner yet. You are trying to kill that motor. When people speak of lean, they are speaking fuel to air, not fuel to oil. Running more oil only makes less fuel and more oil get through the jets making it even leaner. Your problem is you are way to lean and that always creates a hard to start motor. Need more fuel. Close your airscrews down to 1/2 turn out, pull your choke, and see if it starts any better. It is possible that your floats are off and leaving your fuel on let some flow into the cyl making it easier to start. But if that was the case, it should be running out onto the floor out of your overflows. Quote
jaydun323 Posted March 13, 2009 Author Report Posted March 13, 2009 thats why im a noob. i feel like an idiot. going to the dealership for jets today. thanks Quote
AKheathen Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 you probably got water in the stator, and pre-existing corrosion works like an electrolite untill the water eveporates. check your stator cover seals and clean it out with some electrical cleaner. knowingly running lean is like jacking off at the post office. there will be consequences, but you're too lazy to change the situation Quote
jaydun323 Posted March 13, 2009 Author Report Posted March 13, 2009 just called the dealership to get some jets, yeah 6 bucks a piece for the mains and 17 bucks a piece for the pilots!! wtf why so damn exspensive. but guess i gotta pay it Quote

jaydun323 Posted March 13, 2009 Author Report Posted March 13, 2009 it does seem a little pricey, im looking online now Quote
sheefreak Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 That is rediculous for the pilots. Don't feel stupid and don't be afraid to ask. Have to learn somehow. I only came off sounding kind of harsh because I am trying to get through to you the sense of urgency. Run your oil at 40:1(if it is quality oil) and I agree w/AK. Check and make sure your stator is not waterlogged... Quote
AKheathen Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 (edited) it does seem a little pricey, I'm looking online now call Jeff @ fast. he'll probably get you closest on what jets you need, so you don't end up buying a bunch that you don't i hear he ships fast, too Edited March 13, 2009 by AKheathen Quote
dajogejr Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 I'd say 27.5 or 30 pilots depending on your riding temps and elevation, which if you posted it...I didn't read it. 320 to 340 on the mains, again, temp and elevation not known. I'd say you got the electrical wet as well. Remove the plastic cover on the left side (shifter side, remove the foot peg and shifter) and look for water in there. Blow some compressed air in there... Double check that gap between the flywheel nubs and the pickup coil. Also get some die-electric grease and seal up the CDI connectors, stator connectors and the coil connectors. Lastly, if you still have a stock coil/coil wires, replace the factory coil ends with NGK Spark Plug ends. Quote
jaydun323 Posted March 13, 2009 Author Report Posted March 13, 2009 just got off the phone with Jeff a FAST and he got me squared away on jetting. Sending me 300,310,320 mains to play around a little and 27.5 pilots all shipped priority for 34 bucks. Quote
