Ok so I made a recent post about the motor I just put together, and for some rason I cant find it any more? anyways... I put a new motor together thought it was running ok, but the left cylinder seemed a little rich... ran some carb. cleaner through and examined the problem closer... the left cylinder just doesn't want to fire it only fires like half the time.... I wont be able to work on it till tomorrow so I figured Id start brain storming possibilities. Im thinking ignition wires are backwards, bad wire or plug, or some kind of electrical... what can you guys think of that might cause this?

you can't really get them backwards, but the plug caps go bad, just like the sno-go. same caps too. i buy mine at ak snomobile salvage, or marita sea& ski. it still can be a carb issue, though

would the carbs make it not fire though? cuz its getting air and fuel just not firing.

if it's not getting the right amount, but it's most likely the cap

Switch the spark plugs wires and carbs and see if the problems goes to the other side.

Only change one thing at a time.

I was having a similiar prob, I ended up blowing the bitch up.

When you where don with the assembly did you do a leakdown to make sure you dont have any air leaks

I had a similar problem like that last month, turned out to be the flywheel, one of the nodes wasnt working, swapped one out, purred like a kitten, try swapping wires see if problem follows wire,if you have after market carbs swap carbs see if it follows, but the fly wheel through me for a loop for six hrs and it looked and sounded fine when shaken

No the builder I talked to said you should put it through a couple heat cycles then do a leak down and compression test and re-tighten everything

OK guysIll try swapping them and see what happens,

I would do what Joe said.. Switch the plugs and wires at the same time.. Next I would check the carbs to see if they are syncd.. Check the wires coming off to see if the left one is hung up on something.. those would be the two I'd bet on!

could be several things:

plug caps

plugs

crossover tube

dirty carb / jets

you can put a timing light on the wire to the cylinder that's not firing to see if it's getting a signal, or you could just pull the plug to check for spark before you go changing things. are you running the stock airbox?

Yeah I am but I modded the lid so its only like 2 inches long so it holds the air filter but is open

Ok guys I switched the wires and the plugs and its still in the left cylinder... Im almost thinking I should do a compression because its got week exhaust and or it fires only like half the time.

So what do you guys think it could be now that that is checked off?

fool with the carbs and i just finished puting my motor together like 5 6 days ago and i never did a leak test could some one explain what it is and how to do it

i always end up posting before i finish my thoughts but i didnt put the clutch cover on yet waiting for the clutch to come in the mail and then the gasket oo also i didnt put on the starter cover

Do the leakdown test, then run the heat cylcles and retorque.

I would double check the pilot jets that they are clean, double check all of the adjustments on each carb that they are the same and make sure to sync them. Check the compression in each cylinder to rule out an internal mechanical issue. You could also have an issue with your reeds, make sure they are closing properly and not broken.
